Shaker Heights, Ohio is a village in the U.S. state of Ohio and is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 61,362 as of the 2010 census. It is located on the Mahoning River between Cleveland and Akron. The first Shaker settlement in what would become Shaker Heights was established on December 14, 1787 by Theophilus Eaton, an Englishman who had come to America as indentured servant with his family. Many early Shakers were Quakers; however, by 1802 most had converted to Christianity and became known as plain "Shakers." In 1819, Rev. John Taylor led a group of Shakers from their settlements at Swenzerstown and Northfield into what would become Shaker Heights – then one small township within Cuyahoga County. When new Erie Canal construction began in 1825, much of central Ohio came under its influence when developers built shipping terminals near the village center for goods shipped eastward along the canal itself rather than through more remote locations like Cuyahoga Falls or Youngstown (then part of Trumbull County). This was also a time when many farmers turned to agriculture because transportation wasn't available to them otherwise. As trade increased between eastern cities and western farms during this period, images of prosperous villages such as Middletown started appearing in newspapers all over America—soon followed by reports about how those same villages were being rapidly destroyed by fire or floods due to lack of insurance Eventually enough people moved away from rural areas around Mackinac Island that it formed its own incorporated Village in 1905: shakerhills@aolcom/

Shaker Heights is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 10,858 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Shaker Heights is one of six townships in Mahoning County. One of the other five townships is Mentor. The first Europeans to visit what is now Shaker Heights were Shawnee traders who landed there in 1799 and 1800 on their way from Kentucky to trade with the French and Indian War allies of Great Britain. They named their new community after early American patriot Caleb Shakers, who had beeninglered as an enemy general during the revolution and then fled to England to avoidclosure by New York City's British-controlled government. In 1814, Shaker Township was organized as a separate village out of land that had once been part of Mentor Township. That same year, John Dolan erected a grist mill on Beaver Creek near modern day Mentor and continued operations until 1840 when he sold his interest in the mill to David Cutler for $5,000 cash. In 1841, Cutler built a log cabin at present day Wright Road and established himself as a proprietorof grist mills throughout central Ohio; his successors operated them until 1902 when they became state property under state law (see later history). In 1845, following passage of the Kansas-Nebraska bill by Congress which allowed slavery into Nebraska Territory via free territory west of Missouri River, many Quakers living in Illinois migrated westward through Canada into Minnesota Territory where they encountered abolitionists traveling on horseback from Iowa City via Winnipeg to Topeka before finally reaching Minneapolis where they disembarked at Pier 21 on Aug 28th 1850 bearing news that Kansas would be admitted as an slave state without giving slavery any say in the matter! A group led by Peter Marilla boarded an arriving steamer called "Queen" carrying passengers and goods from Duluth Minnesota bound for Kansas City but only 9 people made it all the way across North Dakota before being forced back ashore by Ulysses S Grant's forces on September 5th 1850! Some 20 days later Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated President & free labor advocates such as Edwin Booth attended his inauguration ceremonies located uptown along Pennsylvania Station! Shaker Heights experienced rapid growth during its first few years post-ordinance due largely to immigration: Irish Catholics began moving there in droves beginning around1850 while Poles also flocked after partitions within Russia created three large Polish districts adjacenttoMahoning Valley – Podlaskie Voivodeship (now southern Poland), Lublin Voivodeship (now eastern Poland) & Galicia Voivodeship (now western Ukraine). Many Germans also moved here because Northern Indiana offered generous land grants coupled with low unemployment rates despiteMODERN DAY CITIES WITH MUCH LOWER UNEMPLOYMENT RATES INCREASINGLY BUYING AND SOLDING RIGHT IN SHAKER HEWITTESDALE FROM THE MID 1800S TO EARLY 1900s WHILE ORDINANCE NO LONGER ALLOWED POLLUTION FREE ENTRY INTO NEBRASKA TOWARD WEST COAST OF MISSOURI RIVER FOR FREE LATTER YEARS!!! Many industrial plants were established during this time including Ackermann Bros., Gardner Manufacturing Company, National Brewery Corporation (later Anheuser Busch), Messerschmitt Aircraft Company (& divisions/subsidiaries), Cleveland Rubber Plantation (#1 producerof interlocking circles tire rubber products), Heublein brewery #2 owneriedby Jacob Riis (& subsidiaries) among others while small businesses grew rapidly such as Mrs Charles Eickhoffns bakery which produced pastries such as doughnuts & croissant sandwiches until closed down by her husband Fred Eickhoffn about 1910; Mrs Gertrude Wexler ran her own dressmaking business until she too closed shop around 1970s; Allan Martin opened his shoe store at Hamilton Place starting about 1860; Edward Hogg opened his grocery store at Third Street about 1870 followed eventually by Harry Jaffe who opened his ice cream parlor next door starting about 1915;; The last major employer left behind was Willard Matson's furniture company which produced elaborate woodwind instruments used chiefly within religious services until it ceased operations around 1940 During this time period many prominent residents included: Reverend James Stillman Congregational Minister rectorofthe First Presbyterian Church (); Dr George Washington Masterson Physician (); Judge John Neely ; Mayor Solomon Pomeroy ; Hiram Maxim ; Augustus Saint-Gaudens ironfounder (); Reverend Samuel Morse Druggist (); Dr Jacob Riis real estate developer (); Captain Richard Bennett USN () born c1775 ); Jesse Owens Olympic runner (). Many homes were built here including ones designed by architect Horace Greeley Sr.; John Fenton builder () responsible for designing several significant Cleveland buildings including Euclid Hall & Masonic Temple while other architects include Daniel Burnham (), William Levee (), Alfred Hitchcock (). Many factories closed during this time period including those mentioned above plus various agricultural products producers like William Broaddus Producers Co., Isaac Brockman Co., etc.; Maynard Dixon pipe maker (#1 publisherof English broadway plays); Prentice Amish farmerfamilies started using railroads for transportation beginning around 1880
Shaker Heights was originally settled by the Quakers in 1797. The town was named for the Shakers, a group of religious dissidents who fled to America from England in the mid-1700s. The Quakers built their first house in what is now Shaker Heights in 1798. In 1811, the town gained city status and began to grow rapidly. By 1830, Shaker Heights had a population of around 2,000 people. In 1849, Shaker Heights became the capital of Ohio and its first city hall was erected. Over time, many new businesses were founded in Shaker Heights and it became one of the most vibrant cities on the East Coast. In 1933, Mayor John Fenton announced that Shaker Heights would become an incorporated city once again and it did so in 1935.
