Seven Hills is an unincorporated community in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 694 at the 2000 census. It is located on the right bank of the Scioto River, just upstream of its confluence with the Olentangy River. It is a small village situated within a larger community called Northwood and lies east of downtown Butler. The village was platted in 1837 by John and Eliza Morse, who named it for seven hills that they saw near their home on the Scioto Valley countryside. The first post office was established in 1841, and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. At its peak during World War II Seven Hills had a population of about 175 residents; however, most residents left after the war ended. The original theater which still stands today served as a movie house from 1915 to 1951. In 1957 Google Earth released aerial views of all populated areas in Butler County before 1900- so researchers could study this area more closely- Seventh Hill did not make it into this map but does show up on some other maps prior to 1957 as part of Northwood Village/Seven Hills Township which was annexed by Butler City Limits following that year's merger between Butler and Cleveland counties (and later Greater Cleveland). The only building still standing from when Seven Hills village was platted is what is now known as the old Masonic Temple because it burned down in 1906 while being used as a meeting hall for the townspeople (itself an indirect result of problems between local merchants and nearby Northwood). Seven Hills was a census-designated place in Shawnee County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Seven Hills Township was Jeremiah Hammond on July 3, 1795. Hammond's son Daniel eventually took over from his father and helped to populate the township. Daniel's wife Hannah had married David Weiser, who had founded Weiserstown after arriving in Ohio in 1784 from Pennsylvania with his family. They built a log cabin near present-day Barrett Road and called it "Hannah's Cabin". The first post office was established at this location on November 12, 1806. In 1828, Seven Hills Township was created out of land that included much of what is now University Heights and parts of University City and North Royalton Township. On December 7th, 1829 seven men met at the home of Capt Elisha Brown to form a town charter for what would become known as "Seven Hills." The town plat showed an agricultural village with five churches (Methodist Episcopal Church being built by Rev John Hargrave), a schoolhouse (1829), three stores (one by Jeremiah Hammond and two by Daniel Hammond - one still extant) and twelve dwellings or homes including four taverns/published houses which are all long gone but contributing to some hints about these early days: The first white settler listed in the 1800 census living within modern day Seven Hills Township- Jeremiah Hammond- reported he arrived on July 3rd 1795 with his family from Pennsylvania and landed at Portsmouth Point on Lake Erie
