The history of coffee in Sandusky, Ohio goes back to the early 1800s. Coffee was first grown on a small farm near the town and began to be sold commercially by 1827. The first roasting shop in Sandusky opened in 1846 and soon became known as one of the best in the area. Coffee beans were roasted on large, sustainable plantations until the late 1930s when production stopped because of World War II. In recent years, coffee has been produced at an industrial scale and is now widely available throughout Greater Cleveland and parts of Indiana.

Sandusky (OH) is home to the first coffee shop in America, which opened in 1824. In 1865, a mill town began to form around the port of Sandusky and businesses soon followed. By 1870, the town had over 100 residents and 10 businesses. The Panic of 1893 caused a collapse in business but the community bounced back and by 1896 there were over 200 residents and 20 businesses. Coffee became an important part of local life and was sold from store to store. It wasn't until 1912 that a large grocery store opened up and began selling coffee direct from beans. In 1925, Sandusky's first high school was built and it served as a center for education for the area until it closed in 2006.
Sandusky, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Sandusky County. The population was 14,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH metropolitan area. Sandusky is located on the southern edge of what used to be known as "The Great Lakes Region." The region now includes much of northwestern Ohio and parts of Indiana and Michigan. At one time it included all or most of what are now eastern Pennsylvania, western New York State, Erie County (including Buffalo), and much of northern Ontario. Ohio's first white settler was Edward Tiffin in 1795; he built a log cabin on the Scioto River near present day Sandusky after traveling from Boston via Erie Canal to find land for his Colony there Subsequently other early families followed: Weems, Botkin, Hennepin, Carroll (originally spelling Carrol), Macklinn (originally spelled McNally). In 1803 John Brown founded College Hill Plantation southwest of downtown Sandusky with land purchased from Tiffin and others including Elias Cage who had earlier been an American Revolutionary War captain and merchantman captain for Robert Morris’s Continental Army unit in Westchester County, New York After 1830 many Germans moved into this area from Upper Midwest states such as Pennsylvania because they had been attracted by cheap land prices hereabouts contrasted with high costs back home . They were followed by Irish immigrants during the 1840s when railroads brought large numbers thereof westward across Wisconsin Territory into Illinois Territory before finally reaching Sandusky Bayou where they erected their homes along 12 Mile Creek just south of today’s Midway Park shopping center . Today Poles too are numerous descendants mainly from Lackawanna Coal & Coke Company sand company employees who worked at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre mines until 1984 They have also acquired parcels along 12 Mile Creek which they call “The Polish Village” Most recently a group affiliated with Unitarian Universalist Church moved into an old quarry next door to build a new church complex which opened in late 2006 called Resurrection Missionary Baptist Church In 1825 Englishman David Dodd established Dodd & Co., grocery stores hereabouts , later becoming one side street off Main Street east becameknownasDodd Avenue after him while William Woodruff took over opposite side until 1888 when that name changed to First National Bank Streets named after prominent local citizens throughout these years include: James Kapp (1872-1916) cofounder Jno Wickerham Cope Jr.(1885-1963) vice president banker for bankrupt Wilcox Paper Merchants Incorporated Joseph Ahernanes Sr.(1920-) chairman emeritus since retiring in 2002 Harlan Mounce(1921-) treasurer emeritus since retiring in 2001 future trustee Emeritus James Pritchard played major role w/new bank structure - see history museum website wwwsanduskoryourhistorycom For more detailed information please see my article entitled "Sandusky – America's Most Mysterious Town" published online December 2nd 2009 atHistoryMuseum.org

Sandusky, Ohio is a small town located in the Ohio River Valley about 15 miles west of Cleveland. The population was 5,021 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1810 by Ira Sandusky and his family. It was named after General George Washington. In 1814, construction began on the Sandusky Arsenal, which became one of the largest arsenals in North America. The armory remained in operation until 1898. In 1966, Dr. Jerry Sandusky took ownership of the now defunct Capitol High School in Sandusky and renovated it into a comprehensive high school that offered a variety of classes and sports programs for students from pre-kindergarten through college level. At that time, Capitol High School also served as home to both boys' and girls' soccer teams as well as numerous other clubs and organizations for students and their families. Dr. Jerry Sandusky later served as Superintendent of Education for Lucas County Schools from 1997 until his retirement in 2011; during his tenure, he helped to create or improve many education programs including Raise My Voice: A Black History Month program at Capitol High School which honored inner-city youths with scholarships every month throughout 2006; developing new music instruction methods; creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged students to attend schools with better curriculum options; working collaboratively with local businesses to develop partnerships that enhanced economic development around Lucas County; implementing Capital One Scholarships throughout Lucas County schools which provide financial assistance to qualified elementary or secondary students who demonstrate exemplary academic achievement while attending school; providing leadership support for troops serving overseas during wartime missions; chairing various councils related to school personnel issues such as teacher retention policies and special education services; coordinating community outreach events such as Taste Of Cleveland food truck drive.; participating actively in many local civic organizations including being member of Board of Trustees for Greater Cleveland First Baptist Church District #1 since its inception in 2002.; being presidentially appointed chairman (2009-2013) of United Way's Region 10 board., acting chairwoman (2003-2005), vicechairman (2002-2004), treasurer (2001-2002), superintendent emeritus position since 2003
