In Sandusky, Ohio, the United States Air Force has been deployed to support local law enforcement and emergency services since 1990. The Air Force's mission is to provide air power for disaster relief and national security operations. In addition to providing air support, the USAF also provides a wide range of gift items and services to local governmental entities in Ohio. One of the most important gifts that the USAF has given to local government in Ohio is the deployment of an operational F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet as a goodwill gesture in 1990. Sandusky is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,794 at the 2010 census. Sandusky is part of the Dayton–Dayville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Sandusky" was given to the town by General George Washington in 1795 because of its similarity to Santa Susana Pass near San Diego, California. The community started as a small settlement on Indian land and was first called Sandy Ford. After the American Civil War, settlers began moving into the area and in 1872 they named the community after General John Custer's cavalry unit that had been massacred at Little Bighorn during the war. The early economy of Sandusky was based on farming and ranching; however, over time manufacturing became an important factor in the town's economy as it grew through annexations of other towns within Mahoning County. In 1984, Eastern State Penitentiary closed down and many jobs were lost due to its close proximity to Sandusky Township and its lack of transportation options for inmates. However, business has since begun to rebound thanks to new projects such as a new hospital and redevelopment around Eastern State Penitentiary which have helped increase tourism Contributions to local coffers. In recent years there has been some controversy surrounding race relations in Sandusky due to several high-profile cases involving black athletes in nearbyOhio University football players Jalin Marshall (now with Temple)and Anthony Smith have drawn national attention while also causing concern over possible racism among law enforcement officers who responded to these incidents or may have known about them but did not report them because they were involved with a team or organization white people supported

Sandusky, Ohio is an unincorporated community in the U.S. state of Ohio and it is the county seat of Sandusky County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,361. The town was founded by General Andrew Jackson on October 25, 1812 as a station on his fur-trading trip from Canada to the United States. It became a city on December 12, 1923. The first settler in Sandusky Township was John Winchester who arrived in 1813 with his family from Virginia. He built a cabin and clearing near what is now called Strawberry Point on the Scioto River. The first school in Sandusky Township was established in 1816 by Revd Joseph Andrews and Druben Cobbett as an academy for Native Americans known as "the Indian School". In 1830, Colonel John Stark started building a gristmill northwest of where present-day Union Station stands and soon had four mills operating; one each at Willow Creek (1830), Gahanna (1831), Davenport (1832) and Sandusky (1833). West Side Railroad came into operation around 1840 which made transportation much easier for settlers looking for land east of the Scioto River including via wagon train overland from Kentucky to Harrisonburg or Pittsburgh (). In 1845 Uniontownship trustees voted to break away from township government and form their own village within it: Unionville (). On November 6 that year trustees James Fenton, George Soddy and Abel Willson organized aldermen Isaac Dudley, Ebenezer Holmes and Cornelius Post into a village meeting at which they set up shop with two storehouses (), three homes ()—one owned by postmaster Burleigh()—a blacksmith shop () also operated by Post(), jail cells (), schools (), service house (), doctor's office (), Methodist Episcopal Church ()—the only such congregation existing at that time outside of Cincinnati—"an excellent society" (). thereafter all inhabitants were given hereditary surnames beginning with "Post." For many years there were just six residents living in Uniontownship: Post(), Holmes(), Dudley(), Soddy(), Willson()—all of whom continued living there until its dissolution following World War II when most residents moved to other villages nearby or closer to Cincinnati proper (). In 1924 Uniontownship took its current name after then-Senator Robert E. Bogue when he agreed to become its first mayoralty candidate against incumbent Averill Harriman during that year's general election campaign; Bogue won handily but no new Village formed as a result because Bogue did not run again while Harriman did not concede.—at least not directly.— later that same year Representative Edmond McCormack also chose UE instead of Harriman's alternative Millvale because he wanted more than just another name change without any consequences attached (); McCormack represented UE until becoming governor in 1933.— further development followed during this time as several factories opened up along I-71 south of town providing employment for local citizens (); these include Chrysler Corp., American Canova Co., Ford Motor Company (& various parts suppliers)) among others.— finally starting around 1960s UE began slowly declining due mostly to changes within local governmental structure brought about by suburbanization/urbanization throughout southern OH.; this trend accelerated once Barry Goldwater became UAW Chairman & CEO in 1964 leading to mass job losses within UE & large numbers moving out into surrounding counties including Steuben County (& Erie County) whereupon UE officially ceased operations on July 20th, 1990
