As the town of Salem, Ohio is known for its Shooting Museum and Historical Society, it is no surprise that the history of this locality includes a significant amount of shooters gift history. The museum was founded in 1907 by Dr. George A. Smith, an educator and member of the Board of Education for Summit County. The society was chartered in 1912 and continues to be a nonprofit organization which preserves and promotes shooting culture in the community. One early shooter gift was from Edwin Worthy, who donated a .22 rifle to the society as part of his donation drive in 1916. Worthy was one of several notable donors during this time period who contributed firearms to various organizations across the United States as part of their effort to promote Second Amendment rights. In 1922, Elisha Smeal donated a shotgun to the society along with five rounds of ammunition. This donation marked the beginning of what would become an important tradition at the museum - giving backpacks or other personal items to shooters as gifts in order to show appreciation for their time spent firing firearms on ranges and target ranges around Summit County. In 1949, Benjamin Fenton donated a Benelli shotgun which he had been using at his home range near Cleveland for years. Fenton had been involved with shooting since before World War II when he served on active duty with The US Army's 7th Armored Division stationed in Germany. Upon return home, he began taking classes at Case Western Reserve University's School of Firearms & Ammunition where he learned how to shoot shotguns correctly. He decided then and there that he wanted to give back his old weapon - now dating back over 60 years - to Salem's Shooting Museum! In 1956, Donny Sheppard donated a Remington 870 shotgun which he had been using at hishome range near Painesville Heights for many years prior thereto (he also gave away two handguns). Sheppard had been involved with shooting since childhood; first learning how to shoot handguns while living in Cincinnati before moving out west and joining The US Navy during World War II where he shot airplanes off shore! After completing service duty in 1945, He moved back east and became interested in shooting again after hearing about Salem's Shooting Museum from friends aboard USS Constitution (LST-795) while sailing through Lake Erie! When she anchored off Painesville Heights Marina on July 10th 1957 (the day after Columbine High School shootings), Sheppard took advantageof her downtime ashore by performing somegun tox testing on participants aboard Constitution; proving once again that America's gun industry is not without consequence! Today, Salem’s Shooting Museum has more than 16 thousand visitors per year who comealidays from all over Ohio including Akron/Canton/Muncie etc...The museum features rotating exhibits on different facets of Second Amendment history such as pistols & rifles from 1775-present; guns made today & yesterday; muzzle loadingers/ smoothbore cannons etc... each season they add new exhibits making it one stop shop for all your Second Amendment needs!

Salem is a town in Franklin County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Salem were two Frenchmen, Pierre-Jacques Marquette and Jean Nicolet, in 1614. They explored the area that would become Franklin County and named it for Saint Augustine of Canterbury because of its resemblance to that saint's birthplace in England. In 1804, James K. Polk was elected president of the United States and traveled through Franklin County on his way from Cincinnati to Washington D.C.. When he reached Salem, he stopped at a small Methodist church there on October 12th and ordered all his subordinates to stop traveling until they had heard from him back in Cincinnati. The townspeople had no idea what their new president wanted or why he was stopping here so early in his term! In 1811–1812, during the War of 1812 (the largest war ever fought by the United States), Salem was one of several towns along with Youngstown and Canal City that experienced military action due to Perry's Invasion Order No. 11 (issued on July 10th). On November 3rd around 7 p.m., three rifle shots were fired into a crowd gathered outside the courthouse shortly after President James K Polk had pronounced martial law in order to suppress any pro-war demonstrations taking place throughout central Ohio following news reports that General Andrew Jackson was about to invade neighboring Kentucky via road from Lawrenceburg over Mount Vernon Hill towards Springfield? As a result of this event local citizens took up arms against federal troops under command of Brigadier General John Fenton as part of an effort known as "The American Revolution." One resident who bore responsibility for leading this insurrectionary movement is today honored as "The Father of Salem." Afterward most residents turned back home but some continued armed resistance until late night when Federal forces arrived without warning; many residents then surrendered without further incident.? Aftermath: Over 80% Of Citizens Surrendered Without incident or violence Settlement: Withdrawal Of Federal Forces led To growth Of Mennonite community which would continue until 1959 A postmark reading "Salem 1792" can still be found on tombstones remaining from that year's settlement
