Salem, Ohio, is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ross County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 27,554. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The city's history dates back to 1800, when it was founded by General David Wilkinson as a trading post on what is now Cuyahoga River Boulevard and Market Street. The name "Salem" came from Indian word meaning "place where there are wild figs." In 1811, Salem became one of thirteen original towns in Stark County when that county was created from portions of Shiawassee and Geauga counties. The first store in town was established by Solomon Northrup and his partnership with John Stephenson. From its early days as a trading post to its current status as an economic center for southeast Ohio, Salem has seen many changes over time - including two periods during which it experienced rapid growth: during World War II when it became one of the largest military centers in America; and since 2000 as home to several technology companies such as Dell (now HP) and Intel (INTC). Gourmet Coffee History in Salem begins with these early days when General David Wilkinson set up shop hereabouts on what is now Cuyahoga River Boulevard/Market Street – making this then-backward outpost into one of America’s most important coffee cities – beginning with retail trade only. In 1850 – some 43 years after Wilkinson had first opened his business hereabouts – local resident James Fenton opened his first grocery store on First Avenue just south of present day Elmwood Drive; also boasting at that time perhaps the best coffee beans available anywhere outside India or Africa! This passage about James Fenton & Sons runs thusly: “Located about three blocks east along First Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets were two old frame buildings originally erected for storage purposes near where our present grocery building stands today…The block bounded by First Avenue, Fifth Street, SixthStreet [sic] Niblick Road [sic],[and] Elmwood Drive formed part of what used to be known as “the village” or “township” which lay within Mr. Fenton’s bounds until he sold it all together to Messrs Ridgway Bros., Lumbermen about 1851″ It would not be until 1892 when Salems self-proclaimed elite business school graduate Samuel Morse purchased land adjoining Fenton’s store site for future educational use; thenceforth called Samuel Morse School! It wasn't long before Samuel Morse started brewing his own coffee beans at his new Foundry Place facility adjacent to School grounds; marking yet another milestone in Salem's rich coffee history!SAMUEL MORSE COFFEE BUSINESSES INCREASED SALEM'S POPULATION FROM ABOUT 350 TO 1400 BY 1900!! Salem was founded in 1795 by settlers from New England. The first post office was established in 1803. In 1800, Salem had a population of only hundred people. In 1815, Salem became an incorporated town with a population of 2,000 people. Salem experienced some significant events during its history: it was birthplace of George Washington; home to John F Kennedy and his mother; birthplace of abolitionist Wendell Phillips; site of the Battle of Bunker Hill; and home to Walter Matthau who played Senator Abraham Lincoln on television's "The Philadelphians." Salem is also known for its annual Pumpkin Festival which takes place in late October or early November each year.

Anchor Steam Coffee was founded by John Anchor in 1847 in Albany, New York City. He opened his first store selling ice cream when he was just 19 years old! Blue Bottle Coffee began operations in 1984 by founder Ali Baba Sheikh who named it after his favorite film character - Blue Bottle Blues - bluebottles were used for brewing because blackstrap molasses interfered with clarity during brewing process . Salem has experienced many changes over its history including being known for its notorious witchcraft trials which took place between 1792 and 1796. During these trials, several people were executed for allegedly practicing witchcraft in what is now called "The witching hour." Other notable events include being named one of America's "Ten Best Small Towns" by Forbes Magazine in 1990s; becoming home to Nittany Lions baseball team during their historic season in 2003; hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show twice during her Visit To Ohio tour in 2006; becoming host city for the biennial Columbus Day Parade in 2010; hosting the world’s largest arts festival – “The James Beard Festival” – at Greater Columbus Convention Center in 2014; becoming home to Nationwide Arena where both major professional sports teams play; experiencing rapid growth due to new development along Franklin Street dubbed "Franklin Street Wars"; welcoming workers from Mexico who started working here during NAFTA talks leading up to that year's presidential election which took place here; hosts “OhioFest” each summer featuring music performances by local artists at various venues around downtown Cincinnati ; multiple sclerosis research conducted here by scientists from UC Davis ; numerous festivals taking place throughout year including Fringe Festival held every September at Stroudsburg State University auditorium while also having art exhibits throughout town showcasing local talent It should be noted that much of this recent growth has come about through investment from outside businesses such as Amazon Web Services Inc., Expedia Holdings Inc., Google parent company Alphabet Inc., Uber Technologies AG & Didi Chuxing plc., Facebook LLC & Zynga Games Co., among others Today Salem is an economically vibrant community with accomplished citizens who are leaders within their industries or fields of endeavor. This diversity has made Oregon Boulevard -formerly known as Franklin Street - one of main arteries within Salem giving it eclectic shopping options unique unto itself along with nightlife opportunities not found elsewhere near large urban areas Salem has always been associated with horror stories stemming back centuries when some believe witches lived among us .
