Salem, Ohio is known for its coffee beans, but it's also home to one of the most important roasting operations in the country. For over a century, Salem's Coffee Roasters has been hand-roasting and grinding coffee for America's favorite beverage. The first time anyone in Salem tasted fresh roasted coffee was in 1868 when an entrepreneur named Nathan Myhrvold founded the First National Coffee Company. The company served ground coffee from small shops throughout downtown Salem until 1924 when they moved their roast house to what is now called Olde World Coffee House. From then on, Salem's Coffee Roasters became known as one of America's leading producers of high quality beans. In 1971 they opened their second location - this time at 517 High Street - which continues to be the company headquarters today. In 1990, Salem's Coffee Roasters merged with two other businesses - Boston Coffee Company and Saratoga Springsowned Stroud & Dunlap Corporation - creating the largest single business transaction in United States history at that time. This merger allowed Salem to become one of just a handful of American companies that produce and distribute whole bean coffees direct to consumers across the country. Since then, Salem has continued to produce world-class coffee products that are enjoyed by people all over the United States and around the world. In fact, it is estimated that over 75% of all total global sales of roasted coffee come from fresh-roasted beans. The origins of fresh-roasted coffee can be traced back to about 1800 BCE when two Sumerian brewers discovered an early form of roasting beans. After tasting this new type of roasting bean, they developed a way to roast them specifically for their own use. This discovery helped begin the modern day process of fresh-roasting coffeebeans. When caffeine was first introduced into Europe through early traders, it was mostly ground up plants or leaves found near water sources. However, by the late 18th century, people had started using whole beans instead of ground plants because they thought these beans were more flavorful and better quality than processed forms of caffeine. This preference for whole beans continued until about 1870 when technology began to improve and brewers could now make larger quantities at once without having to grind every bean separately. At this point, many different countries began producing their own branded versions of "fresh-roast" coffees with unique flavors and textures (e.g., Italian Roasts). By the end of the 20th century, most major countries had produced standard grocery store brand versions that were indistinguishable from each other save for an occasional variations in roast level or flavor profile

Salem, Ohio is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,643 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1800 by General Francis Smith and named for Salem, Massachusetts. The first post office in Salem was opened on December 12, 1802. The name of the town changed several times including to Skaneateles on May 10, 1814; North Salem on November 9, 1829; and finally to its current name on February 13, 1792. Salem was originally part of the Northwest Territory until it became a state of Ohio in 1803. In 1830 the town plat was surveyed and platted out as an incorporated village with a government under the direction of a mayor and five trustees This proved to be financially unstable so it reverted back to being an unincorporated village on January 1st 1840 when it became part of Trumbull County again On July 15th 1870 Trustee Solomon Purdy resigned effective date due to ill health which resulted from years spent farming near his home . Settlement continued until about 1880 when most residents left for better opportunities elsewhere because there were few jobs available during peacetime . However some stayed until recently when many have moved away due to dwindling resources
Salem, Ohio was founded in 1792 by Captain John Smith. The town was named for the Salem witch trials of 1692. In 1801, the United States acquired Oregon from Spain and renamed it Oregon Territory. In 1848, Salem became the capital of Oregon. The post office at Salem opened in 1853, and was closed in 1903.
