In 1916, air force officers from Dayton, Ohio decided to move their headquarters to Cincinnati and organized the first air forces gift show there. The show became such a success that it was abandoned in 1922 and moved to Cleveland. It returned to Salem in 1946 and has been held every year since then. The most famous air forces gift is the Lockheed C-47 Skytrain transport plane. This plane was donated by Lockheed Martin Corporation in 1957 and became one of the largest donations ever made to the city. The Salem-area air force gift history began in 1948 when the Ohio Air National Guard's 143rd Fighter Wing was activated at Wright-Patterson AFB. The wing was redesignated the 343rd Fighter Wing in 1957 and later, the 527th Fighter Wing. In 1976, the 527th were combined with two other wings to form the 443rd Fighter Wing which operated until 1992. In 1997, a new wing was activated at Seymour Johnson AFB in Raleigh NC called the 545th Fighter Wing. The wing operates today as part of III Bomber Commandaturation Group under 10th Air Force headquarters.
Salem, Ohio is a small town in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1814 by Gates and other settlers from New York City as Salem Village. The name change to Salem in 1837 after the Great Fire of Philadelphia destroyed most of the city. In 1839, Salem became part of the new state of Ohio and changed its name to Salem Township. Salem's history dates back to 1814 when Gates and other settlers arrived in Medina County from New York City looking for land to settle. They named their new village Salem Village after themselves because they were unable to find a more fitting location for their settlement on Long Island Sound where they had been living since 1800. In 1840, when Oregon Territory was formed and all but two counties in Medina County were annexed into it, Salem Township lost its status as an independent township but kept its name until it merged with neighboring Warren Township on April 1, 1893 (the date recognized by the US government as National recognition of local self-government). When Warren Township dissolved on December 12th 1902 due to growth within it which outpaced that allowed for another merger/division on November 3rd 1903 which placed Park residents within Warren’s boundaries while leaving Arlington residents within Salem’s boundaries; this resulted in Arlington being renamed Park during that year’s ceremony marking the first time since 1793 that both villages had been under one roof. On October 15th 1904 a fire destroyed most of what remained of downtown Salem leaving only a single building standing – The Masonic Temple – which still stands today as one of the few remaining reminders of what once existed hereabouts although now largely used for housing purposes. At some point prior to 1912 there may have been another commercial structure erected next door though not currently extant; this building being known locally as “The Bank” or “The Post Office”given its original function serving both functions at different times throughout its history including both periods mentioned aboveAlternate spellings include: "Salgum" (1892-1902), "Saleh" (1904-1912), "Sallem" (1894-1897), "Salemite" (1793-1800), "Saltimaree" (1794-1800) . For many years prior to 1990 there was also an unincorporated community called Park located near present day Arlington Heights serving much like Sallem did before becoming incorporated into Greater Cleveland through annexation shenanigans perpetrated by then Mayor White circa 1990 - see below . In spite of having lost nearly all commerce and industry associated with it during prohibition days & throughout much later thru various fires etc.,salem has come back very strong over recent years due mostly I think to influxes OF fresh blood mixed with GenuineOld stock transplants over many decades plus sense OF responsibility among so many people who really care about things hereabouts especially youngins & parents alike who have kids coming up hereto get away from crapville every day& sometimes workin outside salems small town feel good gr8 place

Salem, Ohio is a small town that has been around for over 160 years. The town was originally named Harmony and was founded by two farmers, John and Polly Morse. The name of the town was changed to Salem in 1851 after the British burned down the city of Canterbury in England. The town had a population of just under 1,000 people when it incorporated as a village in 1902. In 1955, Salem became an unincorporated community and has since passed through several names including Waynesville, Springfield and finally Salem. Today, Salem is a small but thriving community with a population of around 1270 people. Salem began as an agricultural village on the Scioto River located about six miles southwest of downtown Columbus. Agricultural activity includedraising livestock, harvesting crops such as corn and beans, making cheese, butter and other goods from milk products and processing lumber into floorspace for new homes. By 1851, however, there were also some manufacturing operations engaged in local production of textiles such as woolen cloths; shoes; saddles; hats; clocks; gutters; chisels; planes; nailsgun barrels and nearly all types of pottery which continued until at least 1915 when potato starch manufacture ceased because World War I destroyed most equipment necessary for this type of production In 1902, Salem incorporation created problems because only men could vote (at that time women did not have voting rights). A group of women formed the Ladies Aid Society to help manage issues related to elections and civic engagement within the community.The society helped promote social events throughout 1915-1955 inclusive parades honoring local dignitaries along with fire department Awards Banquet balls In 1955-1956 voters approved adding female citizens to the Village Election Committee effective July 1st 1956 which gave women Voting Rights within Village government
