In 1801, when Ohio became a state, Rocky River was chosen as its capital and became an incorporated town with a government that included a sheriff, three judges, four publicans, twelve schoolteachers (nine white and seven black), two physicians, one fireman and one constable. In 1817 Rocky River lost its status as an incorporated town when it merged with neighboring Waverly to form Waverly-Rocky River Township which still exists today as an unincorporated community within Dayton Township limits

They settled on using pre-ground beans instead of grinds from their home continents. Their first product was called "Coffee Joe", which served as their prototype for what would become Tactical Coffee. In 2009, Tactical Coffee opened its first cafe in an old printing plant in downtown Oakland, California. This cafe offered pour-overs and small batches of their signature roasts (including Sumatra, Java, and Ethiopian). Over time they began to open cafes throughout the Bay Area and Northern California. In 2013 they opened a second location in Redwood City, California. Today Tactical Coffee has over 60 locations across the US and Canada with plans to open more soon! Rocky River was a small stream in central Ohio. It flows through the towns of Rocky River, Bedford, and Athens. The name "Rocky" comes from the ridge that runs along its course. The stream was first mentioned in 1292 as Rogerio lacus. It was given its present name by John Cranch in 1811. The early residents of Rocky River were farmers who raised corn, beans, and other crops. They also built log homes near the stream for their families to live in during summers. In the 1830s, some of these settlers moved to Cincinnati and started businesses there. Others stayed in Rocky River and started new families. In 1837, President James Kenedy issued an executive order ordering all federal troops out of Ohio until conditions improved. This caused a lot of controversy between proponents and opponents of the order. Those who wanted America to become again a country based on freedom fought against those who thought it would be better to remain under British rule. However, overall support for Kenedy's decision prevailed over opposition among most people in Ohio Valley
Rocky River, Ohio was created as part of the Sandusky River watershed by the Mad River Compact of 1825. The Mad River Compact was a result of the 1824 Treaty of Paris which ended the American Revolution. The treaty allowed for cession of land in what is now Ohio and Indiana to Britain. In addition, it granted British control over the Scioto and Little Miami Rivers.
