The Air Force deployed a gift to Rocky River, Ohio in 1945. The gift was the American F-86 Sabre fighter jet. The War Department had ordered 1,000 of these jets for the United States Military. The planes were delivered to RAF base Shingleham in England and then flown back to America where they were used by the USAF during World War II. After the war, the jets were stored at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio until they were donated to Rocky River in 1945. The Sabre was first flown by Major General James E. "Jimmy" Arnold on July 15th, 1945 while flying over Japan as part of Operation Mockingbird. After the war ended, the Sabre was used by various air forces around the world before being retired in 1982. In 1990, it was added to the National Museum of Flight at DePauw University in Greenville, Indiana as part of their Aircraft Collection. Today, it is on display at Denver's Afloat Aviation Museum and can be seen flying when needed!

The Ohio Air National Guard's 187th Airlift Wing (187AW) deployed a gift-giving campaign to the Rocky River community in late October. The campaign was organized by the wing's air cargo squadron, which donated more than 1,000 pounds of gifts to local organizations. The Wing's donation effort coincided with thewings' "25th Anniversary Celebration," which included an event that saw more than 150 citizens from around the community gathered in downtown Rocky River to celebrate. The celebration featured local artisans selling their handmade items and food samples from local restaurants. "It is great to see our AFB donate such a large amount of time and resources towards making a positive impact on individuals and families in our community," said Brigadier General Patrick Griggs, commander of the 187AW flight deck squadron. "This holiday season we want to thank everyone who participated in this special effort."
Rocky River is a small town in central Ohio, located on the border of Butler and Lawrence counties. The population was 2,082 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1827 by farmers from New York and Pennsylvania who had found land along the north-south Little Miami River. The name Rocky River likely comes from an early settler's pronunciation of "rihk-lee-er" as "rocky". The village began to grow rapidly in the 1830s when it became connected by wagon road to other villages in central Ohio. In 1839, Rocky River became a town with its own government and post office. In 1863, it was named for Ulysses S. Grant, then an American general who had won many battles during the Civil War. In 1870, Rocky River lost its railroad connection but continued to grow as a agricultural community with orchards, cornfields, dairy farms, and cattle ranches. By 1910, most of what remain today were developed as single-family homes or Walmart stores; however some businesses still survive such as the Aurora Hotel which opened in 1926 and remains one of downtown's most popular tourist attractions today. A few remaining businesses that have been around since before Rocky River were built include J & G Holden Boot & Shoe Store (1911), Masonic Lodge No 7 (1890), souvenir shop fronting Main Street (1925), and Maple Leaf Restaurant (1964). However most businesses closed down during or after suburbanization of central Ohio during the late 20th century such as Sears Roebuck store east of downtown which closed in 1996 after more than 60 years in business., While there are some remaining oral histories about what took place back then like old residents talking about how they would go out for dinner at Maple Leaf every night before going home to their families until closing time which usually happened around 10pm., There has been no effort to document this local history so far making it difficult to research anything further about this topic beyond what has been reported thus far
