Richmond Heights is a census-designated place in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. Richmond Heights was founded in 1836 as a small community on a farm by James Robertson and others. It grew rapidly thanks to its location on the main artery leading from Cleveland to Akron and other industrial centers. In 1916, Richmond Heights became an incorporated municipality with full voting rights. The city annexed rural areas around it in the 1970s and 2000s, increasing its population again to over 10,000 residents by 2010. Since independence from Cleveland in 1916, Richmond Heights has been home to many political leaders including Ulysses S. Grant (1840-1924), Grover Cleveland (1837-1908), Franklin D. Roosevelt (1912-1945), and John Kasich (2007-present). Today's economy depends largely on education and healthcare services; however, there are also modest businesses growing nearby such as a food store and car wash that have helped keep Richmond Heights vibrant for decades despite difficult times like recessions or natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy in 2012 which destroyed much of the town's infrastructure

Richmond Heights is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 20,819 at the 2010 census, and it is the largest city in Morrow County by population. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. The first settler in Richmond Heights was James A. McLaughlin who arrived on October 30, 1814 from Maryland. He founded a small village named McLaughlinstown on his farm near today's downtown Richmond Heights. McClung also built a shantytown (later called "Mountain View") on Brush Road east of what is now Delaware Avenue just south of Youngstown Avenue I-96 exit 4A which led to today's Brush Road intersection with Euclid Avenue and east side of I-271 exit 21B, less than one mile north of where the current town square stands today). In 1825, Captain John Cranch settled along what are now Delaware and Youngstown Avenues about two miles northeast of present day Richmond Heights when he purchased land from James A .McLaughlin for $2 per acre (at that time land sales were conducted through agents who negotiated deals with Native American leaders). The first post office in Morrow County was established at Cedarville on July 12, 1827 by Colonel John Gorman; it closed December 15, 1828 due to lack of customers because there wasn't then an efficient mail system between Cleveland andAkron! The first store opened in early 1830 located on Main Street neartoday's Highland Park Drive/Euclid Avenue location! In 1830 George Washington Woodward moved to Richmond Heights from Mahoning County and started a blacksmith shop across the street from where his son still operates it as "Woodward's Forge." Woodward also operated a gristmill southwest of town which ground corn into flour until 1840 when he soldesto David Browning at present day Greenfield Township for $1 per bushel! By 1850, many residents had returned home following unsuccessful attempts to start businesses within their original communities – this included Major General Israel Putnam Sr., later governor (1851-55) – so they petitioned Congress for help creating a new county subdivision known as Morrow County as part of efforts to consolidate multiple counties during this period under President James Kapp during Reconstruction era America Reborn! On March 1, 1850 Congress created Morrow County with its seat at Richburg Springs after approval by Governor Putnam! One significant event occurred January 15th 1870 when steamboats loadded cottonseed onto barges moored off shore at Cedarville Ferry Landings while ferry passengers disembarked for lunch: this marked the beginning of commercial fishing plying these waters off our shores! This activity continued until 1978 when commercial fishing limits were changed effective November 1st due to overfishing!! It should be noted that Stuyvesant Furniture Factory owner Abram Joffe relocated his manufacturing operations from New York City starting February 14th 1889 following management changes there resulting in mass production stoppages; Joffe initially operated outbuildings used by other manufacturers before moving into brick buildings adjacent to Main Street SE corner lot #405 currently occupied byDavid Swift Chevrolet dealership!!! Abram Joffe was instrumental in founding both Cleveland Metropole Library System and Univision TV network located there......... Today most if not all remaining wood frame buildings dating back to 1830s located along Main Street SE corner lot #405 are abandoned............... Many local residents including prominent citizens such as Dr. Richard Sisson became accomplished educators - some becoming well known presidents or Chancellors universities.............educational institutions associated with Richmond Heights include: Rice University (now Houston Methodist), Case Western Reserve University (now Cleveland State), Oberlin College (now Ohio University), Wooster College (now Tiffin University),Daytona Beach Volleyball Club
Richmond Heights is located in the western part of Ohio, on the border of West Virginia and Kentucky. The community was founded in 1892 by bank president John H. Richmond and his wife, Julia C. Richmond. It was named after John H. Richmond's older brother, James K. Richmond, who had also settled in what is now West Virginia. The Risks company operated a cotton gin and mill here until the early 1920s when it went out of business due to Prohibition. After that time, the community began to grow slowly but steadily as more people came to live there and businesses started up around the area including a restaurant and a grocery store before becoming an all-encompassing shopping center in the 1970s with anchor stores such as Sears Roebuck and JCPenny adding more jobs over time. In recent years, however, some merchants have closed their doors while others have seen better days due to competition from larger malls closer to city centers like Dayton or Columbus.
