Reynoldsburg is a city in the southern part of Ohio, United States. It is the county seat of Lucas County and was founded on July 6, 1825. The population was 59,451 at the 2010 census. Reynoldsburg is located in the Western Great Lakes region and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Climate Classification "Cfa"). The area that now makes up Reynoldsburg was first settled by German farmers in the mid-19th century. At that time, it was one of four townships formed from parts of Hamilton Township. On February 25, 1825, a town charter was issued to the new community by General David Wilkinson, governor of Ohio. The name “Reynoldsburg” was chosen because it would be remembered as being home to General Wilkinson’s Headquarters during his military campaigns against Native Americans in what became known as “the American War for Independence”. The town began to grow rapidly after it incorporated as a municipality on March 15, 1827. In 1870, Reynoldsburg annexed what is now Maple Heights and Harrisonville; these changes resulted in its current population size of 59,451 people One major reason why Reynoldsburg has been so successful over the years is its willingness to adapt to changing times and surroundings. For instance, when Interstate 75 came into existence in 1970 linking Toledo with Cincinnati through Ohio State University's campus area (and more recently with Dayton), Reynoldsburg quickly built an interchange near Linden Avenue for traffic coming from both directions. Additionally, they were able to create much needed parking spaces within their limits thanks to surface lot expansions initiated during this same period – something that many larger communities can only dream about!
