Reynoldsburg is a city in and the county seat of Reynoldsburg Township, Ohio, United States. The population was 33,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie metropolitan area. The first permanent settlement in what is now Reynoldsburg was made on July 4, 1788 by James Reynolds and others from Delaware Township. The community was called "New Wilmington" because it was new to the area. In 1814, large numbers of settlers from Indiana arrived in what is now Reynoldstown after being displaced by Native Americans who had taken over their land. A post office called Reynoldsburg was established in 1816, and remained in operation until 1868. The name "Reynoldssburg" was chosen for General James Knoppers' wife because she had been born in New Wilmington and her family named themselves after him. In 1907, William Husted became the first mayor of Reynoldsburg when he won election as alderman on an anti-corruption platform that focused on cleaning up city government. He served two terms before he retired due to health problems caused by Yellow Fever pandemic then raging across America at that time. On April 12, 1909 Mayor Husted's widow died suddenly while he slept; this led to his being succeeded as mayor by his son John Husted Jr.. From 1912 through 1978 there were three mayors: Harry Aiken (1912-1915), James Mallow (1920-1922), and Floyd Boccieri (1928-1929). After serving one term under Mayor Floyd Boccieri, Cleveland native Art Rooney took office as Mayor starting on January 1, 1979 with a four year term that ended on December 31st 1984. During Rooney's tenure there were many changes which included creating the first city library system within a municipality since its inception with library branches located throughout all fifty municipalities within Cleveland County; redoing zoning regulations which prioritized job creation over apartment building construction; moving City Hall from downtown to its current location near Ironton Road; expanding public transportation options such as streetcars running along South University Avenue into neighborhoods such as Midtown Akron etc.; increasing funding for public safety including increased funding for police officers through several Acts of Congress passed during his administration including legislation providing $1 million per year increase for law enforcement agencies statewide; developing new parks including Great Lakes National Recreation Area west of town limits and south side agricultural park east of town limits; implementing water conservation measures such as using less water during summer thunderstorms when streets are closed off completely leading to save water usage thereby saving taxpayers money overall; creating more than 100 jobs through various economic development initiatives such as partnerships with private industry etc.; retiring approximately 100 firemen/women firefighters/paramedics working out of City Hall who have servedcity since its incorporation date back to 1913 etc.; currently homeport city hall has 2 sprawling lawns totaling ; 8 high rise buildings housing various departments each consistingof 50 or more rooms plus numerous smaller buildings usedfor support purposes like marketing offices etc... Reynoldsburg is a small town in Noble County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,992 at the 2010 census. Reynoldsburg is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Reynoldsburg was Nicholas Reynolds who came to the area in 1825 and built a log cabin on the present site of his farmstead. The first post office was established in 1829, and by 1840 there were six families living in the town. In 1846, a sawmill was built on the current site of the original store where Main Street now meets Park Avenue. A stagecoach stop called "Buckaroo" served this community for many years until it burned down in 1915. During World War II, Reynoldstown became one of five sites selected by General George Custer to test an Army anti-tank weapon known as "Tiger". Parts of Reynoldstown have been preserved as military residences and infantry training ranges today. In 1947, Reynoldsburghschoolyard opened its doors to students following a local campaign led by school board member Mrs. Gertrude Henson which raised $10,000 towards its construction from private donors. Today Reynoldsburghschoolyard houses over 50 different grade levels with more than 350 children using it each day during school hours! It also houses gymnasiums for both boys and girls as well as weightlifting equipment for boys and girls teams (6th-12th grades) along with two full size skating rinks (grades 7-9). There is also an attached library (grades 3-8), two baseball fields (7/8ths acre each), three football fields (11/16 acres each), a soccer field (.45 inch high asphalt surface), three basketball courts (.33 inch high asphalt surfaces) as well as four tennis Courts (.75 inch high asphalt surfaces). Many things that originally housed inside or outside classrooms are now used either alone or within pairs to create individualized learning environments that accommodate every child’s unique needs! This innovative educational model has resulted in numerous awards throughout Ohio including being named “Top School District” by Cleveland Plain Dealer Magazine & being “Best School District” by Columbus Dispatch Newspaper!
