The first coffee beans were grown in the Reynoldsburg area by a group of farmers in the 1840s. The early coffee growers used small-scale methods, such as planting trees and cultivating ground beans on site. By the 1860s, however, larger farms had developed in the area and began to process their own beans. In 1868, local entrepreneur John Reynolds started selling his own roasted coffee under the name "Reynoldsburg Coffee." This led to more widespread production throughout the region and made Reynoldsburg one of the leading towns for coffee processing. By 1901, around 50 different cafes operated in town and it was known as one of Ohio's most important caffeine hubbacks.
Reynoldsburg is a small town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Springfield metropolitan area. Reynoldsburg has a rich agricultural history dating back to the 1820s. The name "Reynoldsburg" was given to it by General James Wilkinson after he and his family settled there in 1792. The village of Reynoldsburg was platted in 1814, and named for General Wilkinson's father-in-law, Major John Reynolds. In 1836, the Village of Reynoldsburg became a full town under the jurisdiction ofLucas County. The town plat included land north of Main Street and east of Third Avenue on what is now called Big Creek Road (now State Route 36). The first post office opened in 1839, and remained in operation until it closed on February 12, 1902. When statehood was granted to Ohio in 1907, Reynoldsburg became one of its original townships.
