The navy played an important role in defeating British forces at Battle of Lexington and Battle of Bunker Hill; however, its victory at Trafalgar left Britain almost unopposed on sea for several years. In 1805 President James K. Polk ordered all Ulysses S. Grant's old commandos from Tampa Bay to participate in a successful expedition against Spanish Cuba; this led to increasing American control over key seaports along the Florida Keys and throughout Central America This period also saw significant improvements in naval technology which allowed for faster interceptions by Spanish vessels and more efficient blockade operations than previous generations

In 1796, Reading, Ohio was the first of a series of new settlements in what is now central Ohio. The town was named for Sir John Chesterfield who donated land to the area in 1802. In 1865, Reading became an incorporated city and remained so until 1972 when it merged with Toledo to form the city of Toledo and Cleveland Township. While major league baseball has never been played in Reading, there have been several memorable moments associated with the town throughout its history. On July 6, 1903, Roy Campanella hit his record-breaking home run against Detroit at Comiskey Park. Two years later on October 2nd, 1907 George Brett hit his only professional home run in that town against Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Houck (now known as Roberto Clemente). And finally on April 15th 1948 Don Sutton hit his millionth home run at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland while playing for the Athletics.
