When Reading, Ohio became known as the coffee capital of the world in the early 1800s, it was because of its artisanal coffee production. The first coffee beans were roasted on a small family farm in 1824 by Abraham Lincoln and his partner Nicholas Meyer. Over time, other local farmers and businessmen began to produce their own coffee beans and sell them through small businesses and marketplaces throughout the area. By 1871, Reading had become one of the largest Coffee producing towns in America. Over time, many different types of coffee were produced in Reading including Italian Roast, Brazilian Robusta, Americano/Pumpkin Spice/Brazilian Caramel Coffees, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Columbian Harissa (Acre), Malaysian Borneo Lauter Koffee (Bali), Swiss-Roasted Weisse Pretzel Coffee (Zürich), Java Aceh Sulawesi Teak Tea (Jakarta), Sumatra Sulawesi Teak Tea (Sumatra), African Peanut Coffee (Nigeria) and Arabica Javanese Koffee with Pecans or Walnuts. Today there are over 2200 roasters manufacturing artisanal coffees from around the world. Many of these roasters are based in Reading but also operate out of locations throughout Ohio including Athens, Cincinnati, Dayton and more. As an industry we continue to grow both commercially and artistically with new technologies being developed constantly.

Reading, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Butler County. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 99,372 people. The area now known as Reading was founded by fur traders and settlers in 1795. It became an important port on the Great Lakes due to its location at the mouth of the Scioto River and its position as one of the main trade points along that route. In 1814, Reading became part of Indiana Territory when that territory was created from parts of Kentucky and Illinois. The city grew rapidly during the 19th century thanks to various industrial growths, including a large cotton industry whichve continued until World War II; however, during most of this time it remained an small town with limited educational opportunities for its residents. After voters approved incorporation as a city in 1896, Reading experienced rapid growth during both World Wars I and II as military production moved into the city from surrounding rural areas; however, after 1945 much business decline led to declining population rates and mass layoffs throughout downtown Reading before finally reversing course in 2000 when new downtown construction resumed under mayor Rich Beavers (D). Since then, downtown Reading has seen increasing commercial development as well as more selective use of open space within walking distance for public uses such as libraries and parks while also making progress towards achieving better transparency around government spending which has helped make it easier for citizens to scrutinize their municipal leaders
When first Crafting Coffee began operations in the early 2000’s, it was a small family-owned business. With only a handful of coffee beans and an oven to roast them, they had to continue grinding and roasting their own coffee singlehandedly. It wasn’t until after years of hard work and dedication that they started selling their coffee through word-of-mouth recommendations and online purchases. By 2007, they had opened their second location in the heart of downtown Austin, TX. From there, they grew rapidly into one of Austin’s most popular artisan coffee businesses with over twelve locations statewide (and three in Texas). Today, Crafting Coffee is still run by a small family-owned business with over two hundred employees across five states. Their coffee continues to be roasted on their own premises using only 100% Arabica beans from square bean farms in Latin America. They also sell some of their products direct to consumers through ebay and other online platforms.

The first house in what is now Columbus was built in 1797 by Joshua Henshaw. The city was founded on November 3, 1788, when British colonists from Pennsylvania arrived to create a new settlement in the area. The city grew rapidly and by 1800 had a population of around 10,000 people. By 1830, the population had reached 25,000 people and it grew even further during the 1830s and 1840s as waves of immigrants arrived from Ireland and other parts of Europe. During this time, Columbus became one of America's most important cities because its location made it an ideal port for goods shipped out to markets all over North America. In 1847, Ohio became a state and Columbus continued to grow as a powerful economic center with its own political power.
