Ravenna, Ohio is a town in Adams County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Combined Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Ravenna was Nicholas Miller who arrived around 1800. He platted a land grant called "Miller's Grove" on the east side of town in 1805 and named it for his friend Nicholas Miller from Connecticut. A post office called Ravenna was established in 1810, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1925. The early residents of Ravenna were farmers and their families engaged primarily in lumbering and agriculture; however, by 1825 there were also several sawmills operating within the community along with various other businesses such as a grocery store, blacksmith shop and physician’s office. By 1860 there were over 60 businesses present within Ravenna limits; this number increased to over 100 by 1870 when rail transportation became available to provide more goods and services to local residents. During prohibition period (1912-1923), Ravenna had an extensive bootlegging operation which resulted in many arrests and prosecutions throughout the community including those of Mayor John Fenton who faced 5 felony charges resulting in a decade jail sentence after being caught with 3 gallons of alcohol per week while mayor of Ravenna! In 1931 the old mill closed down due to exhaustion from years of operations while new mills opened up throughout central Ohio during that time but none as successful as that located at Perrysburg near Akron which continued production until 1984 when it too folded due to lack of competition from newer mills development outside Of Ohio! During its heyday about 1900-1950s Ravenna had an estimated population size exceeding 3000 people with its downtown core consisting of brick buildings surrounded by greenhouses/garden plots filled with produce grown by its citizens! Today only traces remain remaining from this once thriving community including some remnants of bricks used during construction still embedded into some walls today!
