The Ohio Air National Guard's 191st Airlift Wing, in Ravenna, is the only airport serving the Cincinnati metropolitan area with an active airlift force. The wing provides lift to more than 150,000 passengers a year and has been providing routine airlift support for the region since 1954. As part of its mission to ensure that Ravenna residents have access to quality air transportation at all times, the Ohio Air National Guard's 191st Airlift Wing frequently sends gift baskets filled with items such as candy bars and chocolates to military families stationed in or visiting Ravenna. This tradition began in 1984 when then-Lt. Gen. Jerry Butler donated a basket of snacks and drinks for every military family who flew into Cincinnati on assignment from Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. Today, the 192nd Airlift Wing (Airlift Command) is responsible for sending gift baskets to military families stationed throughout the Cincinnati area each month. Gift baskets are sent by unit commanders and typically include items such as beer or wine, chips and dip, candy bars, cookies and other treats, fruits/veggies (or fruit juices), cereal/milkshakes/granola bars, soft drinks and snacks like crackers or jerky. Unit commanders also select which local businesses contribute products to make their gifts even more special!

In response to these various missions, Air Force Osprey Aircraft offer unique capabilities designed specifically for maritime patrols, humanitarian relief efforts, disaster relief operations and other critical homeland security tasks. Additionally, since 2007 Air Combat Command has fielded Joint Strike Fighters (JCF) – multirole interceptor aircraft equipped with offensive weapons DH8E/DHC9D engines capable of speeds up to Mach 1.5 – in order provide greater lethality against opponents at long range than ever before possible.

During World War II, Ravenna served as an important axis point for producing military supplies for the war effort in Europe. The city also became home to two American service academies: West Virginia University (now Mountaineers) and Temple University (now Temple University–Progressive). In 1990, Ravenna annexd neighboring Belmont Township; this resulted in increased population density within the city limits but no change to its name or municipal government. In 2006-2007, Ravenna voted to become one of only four U.S cities to adopt an urban growth agreement with the country's largest municipality— Manila, Philippines—in order to bring more jobs and economic development opportunities into the community After years of discussion between Mayor John Kieft and City Administrator Brent Shively Council Resolution No./2006-1 approved annexed Belmont Township which will result increase population density without any major changes to name/municipal government

Ravenna, Ohio is located in the state of Ohio and is part of the Akron metropolitan area. The population was estimated to be over 175,000 at the time of annexation by Ohio in 1801. Ravenna was platted on February 16, 1792 by General George Washington and named for his wife Lady Nancy Carter who had died two years earlier. The town had a population of about 100 people when it became an incorporated village on November 15, 1800. On December 12, 1802, Ravenna became a town charter with a population of 350 people. On July 1, 1803, Ravenna incorporated as a city with a population of 3200 people. In 1824 the city limits were expanded to include Stone County which made ravenna one of the most populous cities in that county. In 1830-1831 citizens voted to secede from Ohio and become an independent republic called “The Free State” according to documents preserved at the University Of Akron Archives. The city annexed Stone County on January 11th 1830 under terms which specified that no taxes would be levied within its boundaries until full independence was granted by Congress. As soon as this happened residents began minting their own coins and selling goods outside the city Limits while proclaiming themselves as “Free State” Citizens!
