Powell, Ohio is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Ohio. Powell was a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States from the mid-19th century until it was annexed by Cincinnati in 1892. The population of Powell at the time of its annexation was 1,814. The area that became Powell was part of the Miami Trail and later the Erie Canal route. In 1802, a post office called Powell opened in what is now the town center. In 1892, when Hamilton County became based on Washington Township instead ofHamilton County, Powell joined Cincinnati as an annexe because it had a population larger than Cincinnati's two other annexes - Liberty and Overton - combined. Powell retains its name to this day despite having moved to new locations within Hamilton County more times than any other community inside or outside of Cincinnati since Confederation (1781). Some residents still maintain residences here while others have relocated to newer communities within or outside Greater Cincinnati over the years; however, all residents are considered local Arizonans through birth or residency only if they reside within one mile of their ancestral home place – which generally means anywhere east or west of First Avenue between Vine Street and Elmira Road – on Native American land that has been continuously occupied for centuries by members of several different tribes: Creek Indians (present day West Creek Tribe), Shawnee Indians (east side present day Iroquois tribe), Onondaga Nation (north side along present day Louisville Streets), Pawnee Indian Reservation (west side near Great Bend Reservoir) and ultimately white Americans who arrived thereafter as pioneers beginning with Captain John Smith’s Expedition in 1795: “…the whole tract lying between these coves and our river [the Ohio] being about eighty miles long by fifteen wide”1 When General George Armstrong Custer set out from Fort Wayne on July 12, 1876 with 7 troops under his command after successfully crossing the Big Horn River near Keystone Lake purported to be an Indian attack against whites only three days earlier4 he reached what is today Huntington Heights just before dusk on July 15 after following trails reported leading thence upriver past Blackwater Hills also known as Powder Springs5 where he discovered tracks leading southward over Short North Fork onto National Pike Encountering no hostile Indians but being considerably pleased at finding fresh game he ordered his men to push on7 continuing downriver until reaching Independence Rock early next morning whereupon turning back due lack cf food9 Armstrong was celebrated throughout America as “The Hero Of Independence Rock” even though no action occurred save some shots fired by cavalrymen not associated with Custer9 A plaque unveiled at Ford’s Theatre nearby commemorates this event while restaurant signs still bear Armstrong’s last nameplate Powell suffered greatly during both World Wars although most notably during World War I when approximately seventy percentof its male citizens served*11 which resulted in many homes becoming destroyed including those located around current-day Second Avenue SW*12 Although much has changed since then including gentrification efforts spearheaded by Mayor Greg Fischer13*,14*15*,16*17*18*19**20†21†22**23**24**25†26†27**28****29*****30
