He brought back a shipment of Spanish artifacts and wine, which he donated to the Naval Museum in Portsmouth. In 1861, the USS Constitution was launched from Portsmouth Harbor and served as America's first battleship. She was also the vessel that carried President Abraham Lincoln into battle during the American Civil War. The USS Constitution was decommissioned in 1922 and scrapped. Portsmouth, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census, making it the third-most populous municipality in Franklin County. Portsmouth is located on the shore of the Muskingum River and is bordered by Latrobe Township to the south and east, Cuyahoga Falls to the north and west, and Akron to the northwest. The town was founded in 1814 by General Davidusky Patton as a landing for supplies en route from Erie to Fort Pitt in Pittsburgh. The area that Portsmouth now occupies was part of Delaware County before it was combined with Franklin County in 1837. In 1865, Portsmouth became an incorporated village when all of Delaware Township became one unit with Portsmouth as its first mayor. On January 1, 1907, Portsmouth became a city when it gained full city status under then- Mayor Abram Sennett. The population reached 54,362 on May 15th 2007 according to the census results released that day by The CityCounty Incorporated). In 1945 Commodore Joshua Sloat ordered all American troops out of Japan after World War II ended; this caused an increase in Japanese immigration which resulted in a high number of Japanese citizens moving into Portsmouth during those years; many came looking for work opportunities unavailable to them within their own home country but also saw opportunity here given that most American businesses closed down during wartime due to rationing issues (the last such restriction lifted two years later). As a result of this inward migration some English speaking residents started calling themselves "Japs" because they were not allowed any contact with either Americans or Japanese people outside of school and church services (though some Japanse students did manage to learn English). This issue led eventually to accusations made against Commodore Sloat by pro-American groups who labelled him "Gentleman Jim". In recent decades there has been an effort underway by various local organizations such as Sentosa pirate group "Pirates Of The Muskingum" (POtM) who maintain docklands along both sides of river near where POtM's basecamp used to be located - since 2001 these areas have been off limits roving pirates because law enforcement officials fear they may damage infrastructure or set up camp there without permission while hunting protected dolphins/seagulls which are incidentally caught incidentally incidentally during harvesting operations

In 1788, many Virginians came to America and began to settle in what is now Portsmouth. They were looking for land they could use as their new home and found it on the Great Miami River. The original settlers were called the "Portsmouth Company." This company owned some land around present-day Portsmouth and built a small town on the banks of the river. The first year that Portsmouth was established, it had only 10 residents. By 1800, it had over 100 residents! In 1811, Plymouth Meeting decided to move from Pennsylvania to become part of Portsmouth because they felt that their community would be better served by being closer to other businesses and families in America than they were in Pennsylvania. Plymouth Meeting continued to exist until 1800 because there weren't enough people left who wanted to join them! In 1814, General Andrew Jackson moved his army through central Ohio during his campaign for president against John Quincy Adams (who had won reelection). When he reached Portsmouth, he ordered all soldiers intotown so that he could inspect its defenses! As a result of this visit, Admiral David Dixon Washington donated 5 acres (20 hectares) of land next door to Portsmouth for a military fortification purposes! This fortification became known as Fort Stephenson! In 1815-1816, Commodore David Porter conducted raids against Native Americans living along the lower Cincinnati River without warning any local civilians or government officials! This made tensions between white settlers and Native Americans much higher than they already were! After Commodore Porter's raidations ended, relations between white settlers and Native Americans improved somewhat! However, this did not last long because another Indian raid took place two years later which increased tension once again!! It wasn't until 1830 when Congress passed an act authorizing President James Kossuth's expedition against Mexico City which led to Columbus Day being celebrated throughout North America instead of Thanksgiving day!! This event helped make America more aware of her Latin American colonies which led to more trade with those countries!!! In 1836-1837 (during Andrew Johnson's presidency), construction started on Erie Canal which would connect Buffalo – upstate New York – with Pittsburgh – downstate PA – creating what is now one of America's largest economies!!! After taking office as Ulysses S Grant's second term president in 1869-1870 (!), Benjamin Harrison became president due largely to his efforts towards railroad development within our borders!!! Throughout his administration there were several large bills sponsored by members of both houses including funding for public safety systems such as policing and firefighting; creating new agencies like Military Affairs; establishing several universities;and building numerous bridges/tunnels across our rivers etc etc etc!!!!!!!!! Some famous products/events during this time include: Woodrow Wilson being born; Abraham Lincoln being elected President; World War I starting;; Prohibition becoming law;; Franklin D Roosevelt becomes President.; Dwight Eisenhower becomes U S President.; Roe v Wade becoming legal
