He also ran a grocery store next door which allowed him to sell coffee along with other food items. By the late 1800s, many small business owners had started selling their own unique blends of coffee. These businesses were often called "cafes" because they served up delicious cups of java at all hours of the day or night. Some notable cafés in Portsmouth include The Gilded Cage (1898), Blue Cat (1901), The Cottage Coffee House (1902-1907), The Garden Grill (1920), and Java Junction (1927). Portsmouth, Ohio is a small city in the state of Ohio located on the lower Peninsula of the United States. The population was 17,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Portsmouth was founded in 1824 by Captain Edward Porter and his brother-in-law Commodore John Denny as an arsenal for supplying General Andrew Jackson's army during the American Revolution. The first permanent settler in Portsmouth was Isaac Hill, who built a cabin on Cumberland Heights in 1827. In 1830, Portsmouth became a town when it incorporated as a result of an act of the Ohio General Assembly. The first post office in Portsmouth was established on November 15, 1829, and operated until May 2, 1830. On July 4th, 1830, Portsmouth celebrated its 500th anniversary with a picnic attended by local dignitaries and residents from surrounding townships. The celebration included games including quoits and corn threshing machines; refreshments; music; and speeches by several prominent citizens such as Governor John Adams and Mayor Nicholas Biddle. In 1835–36, Portsmouth hosted the prestigious International Exhibition of Arts and Industry which showcased many leading industrialists from around the world In 1840 – 41 (the second decade after America's admission to Confederation), Portsmouth experienced one of its most significant eras when it saw rapid growth due to newly opened ports along both its riverfront and interior waterfront areas that had been developed specifically for this purpose by businessman Samuel Morse Sr., attorney general James Kieft (brother-in-law of Amos Kendall), merchants David Rittenhouse (founder/director of Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Coffee House) and others During this time period also important figureings such as banker George Rogers Clark were born or moved to Portsmouth including future Ulysses S Grant who was born there on December 12th 1840 marshal Joseph Ewing did some early work developing oil wells near Portsmouth while also living there he later became Chief Justice US Supreme Court

In 1850, two years after Kuiper's death, his son, Hendrik Kuiper founded the first modern coffee company in Amsterdam. The company produced beans from start to finish and sold them through small retail stores and cafés. In 1903, the company merged with another Dutch coffee firm and became known as Keurig Coffee Company. The companys products were eventually distributed all over the world.

The city was founded by English colonists in 1714 as part of the Great Lakes region settlement known as Portsmouth Plantation. In 1862, it moved from its original site to become one of the largest cities in Ohio when it annexed what are now Lucas County and Cuyahoga County. It is now considered a historic district with a rich colonial history. The City Council has created several monuments to its history, including: The USS Constitution Museum, located inside the former Portsmouth Naval Shipyard; parkland at Delaware Avenue and North High Street; and three blocks east of downtown on High Street is USS Constitution Park, which includes a replica of the ship that served as headquarters for United States Marines during World War II.
Portsmouth is a city in Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 5,836 at the 2010 census. It has been the county seat of Muskegon County since 1837. The first permanent settler in Portsmouth was Nicholas Haggerty and his family who arrived on the ship "Eagle" on January 11, 1796. They built a log cabin on what is now downtown Portsmouth. Portsmouth was platted in 1824 by George Mears and James Fenton as part of the Township of Muskegon Heights. The first school in Portsmouth was called "Nina's School" because it served students in Nina's home until 1847 when a new school building was erected. In 1851, Mrs. Ann White donated land to build a Female Seminary where she taught for many years until her death in 1906. The seminary became known as "White Hall". In 1914, Mr. George Boudreau opened the first store in Portsmouth which later became JB's Discount Store.. In 1922, Mr. Boudreau moved his store to its present location at 9th street and Centre Avenue and continued to operate it until 1978 when he sold it to his son-in-law Bob Semenik who operated it for forty years before selling it to John Kapp who operated it from 1984 until 1994 when he closed it down due to economic reasons.. In 1998, TNT Corporation built their world headquarters located at 1100 N Main Street which remains today one of the most iconic buildings in downtown Portsmouth with its distinctive onion domes roofed building that dominates the skyline In 2002-2003, Portsmouth experienced some very serious flooding that damaged much of downtown including Mrs White's Seminary and several other businesses including JB's Discount Store The City Council enacted an ordinance known as the "Portsmouth Code" which limited development near streams or bodies of water within two blocks of any public park or playground such as Roosevelt Park or Tyndall Park In 2003-2004, there were also some efforts made by local municipalities within Muskegon County towards developing a common regional shopping mall proposal but these plans never cameto fruition On November 3rd 2004 Mayor Tom Hicks announced through proclamation that Portsmouth had been selected as host city for America Online’s global HQ center project . This would be an 8 million dollar investment that would create over 100 jobs across five counties insideMuskegon County In 2006 Portsmouhton adopted an ordinance known as Resolution No 7 which banned smoking indoors anywhere within limits set by neighboring cities such as Ypsilanti
