The national guard in Piqua, Ohio was organized on July 1, 1907. At its inception, the Guard consisted of fifty-six soldiers from three counties. The first Commander of the Guard was Major John A. Parks. From 1907 to 1912, the Guard operated out of the old Central Administration Building located at 4th and State Streets. In 1912, Headquarters moved to First National Bank building at 1111 Main Street and barracks were erected on the rear lot for use as a training school for officers and enlisted men. On November 15, 1916 the Guard was redesignated as the Reserve Militia Bureau of Defense and changed its name to Reserve Militia Forces of Ohio (RMFO). In 1942 RMFO became part of The National Guard Bureau when that body was created by Congress as a result of World War II legislation known as The National Security Act of 1947. As a result of this change in affiliation, all reserve militia forces were re-named Guardsmen upon their organization into full-time military units subject to direction by both the Department Of Defense and Army Commanders General under War Department auspices. From 1946 until 1990 all Guardsmen served without pay while serving their respective unit’s active duty or conscription tours in Vietnam or other nations during that era termed “the Korean War” pursuant to United States Military Code Section 5104(a)(2). Upon return home these same Guardsmen received various awards including commendations from their unit commanders such as personal citations or ribbons/badges if they had them; however no cash compensation was ever offered with respect thereto either within our Armed Forces nor outside thereof during those years attributable thereto solely because then policy therein remained opposed by higher ups within our government who saw nothing more than an unnecessary expense which could have been used more effectively elsewhere in order save perhaps some limited personnel dollars heretofore wasted on an activity which actually did not generate any substantive benefit other than ceremonial significance only window dressinganes inasmuch as actual combat service having been rendered successfully against real enemy combatants rather than third world hooligans thereby putting lives on line thereby illustrating once again how vast this nation’s military establishment really is albeit one largely hidden from view most times beneath cloakings OF professionalism

Piqua is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. The town of Piqua was founded by John Piqua in 1824. In 1828, it became the seat of Cuyahoga County. The first courthouse was built in 1830 and the first mayor was David Fenton. It was moved to its current location on State Route 7 in 1894. In 1916, Piqua lost its status as a village because it had not ratified an ordinance to allow for general incorporation into a township form of government within five years after it had been approved by the county board of trustees. However, it regained full village status in 1922 when it joined with neighboring unincorporated communities to form the new borough of Cleveland Heights. The former steel mills closed around 2000 and now provide housing for people who work in Cleveland or other nearby cities. There has been talk about reviving the mill town idea but no action has yet taken place
