Piqua is an unincorporated community in the Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,059 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Piqua was James Waddell, who arrived in 1824. By 1830, a post office had been established there and mail was carried to Youngstown and Cleveland on horseback. A gristmill was built near the town in 1835 and became a flourmill operation known as the Hoad & Co mill. In 1855, Piqua had a population of 150 people; by 1860 it had risen to 300 people. A railroad connecting Youngstown with Cleveland passed through Piqua in 1857 and by 1870 it had become part of the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad system. The industry declining during the late 19th century, Piqua declined until it regained its economy with suburban development beginning in the early 21st century. Today, Piqua remains an unincorporated community but has started to receive government services such as water and sewer service. It also has a small library which opened on July 1, 2009.
