The National Guard has been in operation in Pickerington, Ohio since 1903. The first unit to be organized was the 1st Volunteer Infantry Regiment on November 5, 1903. In 1917, the National Guard was activated for World War I and served until October 1918. From 1919-1930, it was used as a training battalion for the US military. After World War II ended, the National Guard was disbanded and its units were retired from service. However, it re-emerged in 1951 when the Ohio General Assembly created a state guard organization under the authority of the Ohio Constitution. The National Guardsmen arrived in large numbers in Pickerington during the 1960s and 1970s as part of Operation Kentwood which aimed to integrate black township residents into mainstream society. Since then, there have been periodic calls for their return to duty as an answer to local crime problems or homeland security concerns. Despite these calls, there has never been a permanent full-time presence of national guardsmen in Pickerington – instead they are typically quartered with other county forces or stationed at various military bases around Columbus and Dayton area

Pickerington, Ohio is a city located in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Pickerington Township. The population was 34,189 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Cleveland and Akron counties, about 20 miles northwest of Akron, and about 25 miles east of Cleveland. The community was founded in 1814 by General James Wilkinson as part of theauga Creek Settlement. In 1837, it became part of the newly created township of Pickerington. The first post office in town was opened in 1839. In 1860, it became a city when it joined the Union as a result of the American Civil War. The population reached 50,000 by 1920 and 100,000 by 1930; however, during World War II it decreased to 30,000 due to wartime reductions in government spending. After 1945 its economy became Based more upon service industries such as transportation and pharmaceuticals than manufacturing; however this has increased recently with new industrial development including two major manufacturing plants for plastics and canned goods production respectively which have contributed to population growth over the last ten years or so despite continued declines in real estate values (the largest drop since 2000). The National Guard has been a part of the United States since 1775. The first national guard unit was raised in Rhode Island on September 16, 1775. The Continental Army had no permanent military structure and relied on militias to provide support during the war. On July 4, 1776, General George Washington called for all able-bodied men over 21 years of age to serve in the Continental Army or be drafted into the army. The first national guard unit was mobilized on October 14th and served for two weeks until it was disbanded due to lack of volunteers. In 1777, Congress passed an act authorizing the creation of a standing army within three months if war with Great Britain began. On November 20th, a resolution was passed authorising the President to call forth all male citizens 18 years or older who were not already serving in any other government service “for their good behavior and contributes nothing to our Enemies” as long as they fulfilled all requirements set by Congress including being literate and owning at least one rifle. The first national guard units were organized under this authority on January 1st, 1778. On February 9th, 1779, an act was passed providing for establishment of battalion guards companies each composed of 25 men with rifles instead of pistols onlyaching 3 months service after mobilization while also providing that such companies would not be paid nor receive Quartermaster's rations while duty was performed outside of New York state without compensation from said company’s captain or members thereof This act did not take effect until March 26th when it was amended by congress making battalion guards companies obligatory to serve anywhere within New York state with no exemptions granted except for those stationed at Albany castle where quartermaster's stores were situated Inauguration Day (May 10) 1800 there were now 375 Guards Companies in existence throughout America totaling 13000 soldiers levied against British subjects For every 100 white males aged 18 years or older between May 1st 1800 and September 30th 1801 there were now 103 Militia Companies consisting of militia officers drilled by regulars

Pickerington, Ohio is a small town in central Ohio, United States. The population was 3,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Pickerington was Capt. George Pickering in 1797 while exploring the area for a military post on the Scioto River. After surveys were made of the area and it was decided that there wasn't enough land nearby for a permanent settlement, several families relocated from other parts of Ohio to begin operations as farmers in 1802. With little opportunity for agriculture due to changing climate and soil conditions, many settlers turned to industry in the early 20th century when an American Leather company became established; this led to growth of manufacturing sectors such as textiles, food processing, chemicals and plastics. Pickerington was founded in 1788 by John Pickering. The town became a part of the United States in 1812. In 1814, it was given to Ohio Territory. It remained part of that territory until it was absorbed into the Indiana Territory in 1837.
