Perrysburg is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that was founded in 1814. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named after General George Washington's birthplace, Mount Vernon, Virginia. Perrysburg was laid out by John Dickson in 1811 and had a population of about 100 people when it became a village in 1814. In 1817, Perrysburg erected its first schoolhouse and began to serve as an education center for surrounding villages. In 1830-31, Perrysburg constructed a large brick courthouse which still stands today and has been used as the town hall since 1959. In 1903, the Ohio Legislature passed an act incorporating Perrysburg as a city and giving it full city rights with all powers except criminal jurisdiction over citizens within its limits; this act also changed the name from "Village" to "City". The first mayor of City of Perrysburg was Wm Gentry Hogg (1893-1901). In 1907, perrystown residents successfully campaigned to have their own water system installed which replaced Municipal Water District No. 2 under which they suffered greatly due to high rates requested by neighboring municipalities and lack of available funding; this campaign helped solidify Community Water Systems' role in local government life and continues to play an important role today! In 1916-17, City Councilwoman Celinah Elizabeth Dowell served as Mayor pro tempore during World War I while her husband served with distinction in the army; both women were later elected councilmembers (1923–27) After World War II ended, Dowell retired from politics but continued to live there until her death in 1984 followed by her daughter who continued serving until she too died in office on November 15th 2009 having held office for 64 years! One notable resident who made significant contributions to Perrysburg during his or her career include Drs Franklin Pogue Snider (1920-2002), Philander Keyes Snider (born 1957), emeritus professor emeritus Charles Aiken Cleveland Brown III PhD (1948-) and attorney Cliff Kappelman who currently serves on the board of directors for FirstEnergy Corporation
