Perrysburg is a small community in western Ohio, United States. The population was 9,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Zanesville, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was founded in 1810 by General George Washington and his staff as a military post on the southern border of what is now Perrysburg Township. In 1837, the area became part of the newly formed Union Territory of Ohio after the American Civil War. The town's name derived from nearby Perrysfield, which had been named for General John Forbes Perrys (1768-1836), first governor of Indiana Territory and one of Ulysses S. Grant's generals during the war. In 1915, the US Department of Agriculture acquired land east of downtown to create what is today Wright State University's campus. This led to increased development around that area and eventually led to Perrysburg becoming an incorporated municipality in 1925. From its incorporation until its annexation by Dayton in 1925, Perrysburg had no mayor or council; each individual villager elected themselves six trustees who managed most aspects of city government including amusement license sales and street maintenance while also providing oversight over public works such as schools and firefighting services. The 1920s were a time when many new businesses arrived in town due to World War I shortages; however, Prohibition soon followed thereafter and this caused heavier economic decline for both townspeople and businesses alike until finally reaching a peak during Prohibition-era gangsterism when organized crime controls much of eastern Ohio prostitution Thelate 20th century saw some growth with new housing developments being built but it unfortunately petered out as overall joblessness grew rampant Postwar prosperity brought about by interstate highways has helped revive downtown business with various tourism attractions like Wright State University becoming more plentiful . However recent annexations by other municipalities have again resulted in decreased business activity along with increasing cost overruns associated with infrastructure projects

Perrysburg was founded in 1796 by the Reverend John Perry. The townspeople built a small settlement on the west bank of the Mahoning River, and named it after General George Washington. One of the first businesses in Perrysburg was a blacksmith shop. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s, and by 1815 it had a population of about 100 people. In 1819, Perrysburg became one of three towns in Lucas County (the others were Dayton and Bethel) when that county was created from parts of Ohio and Indiana. During the early 1800s,Lucas County was one of the most rural areas in Ohio. Most residents lived on farms or near water supplies. However, as agricultural production increased and trade with other states expanded, some people began to move into Perrysburg to enjoy its new opportunities. By 1830, there were over 200 people living in Perrysburg. In 1836, Perrysburgh experienced its first major outbreak of white- Slave trade fever which is now know as “The Great Negro Migration” due to its extensive damage done to local slave markets across central Ohio during this time period
