The National Guard in Perrysburg, Ohio was founded on July 1, 1903. At that time, the city of Perrysburg had only a few hundred residents and no military units. The Ohio National Guard was organized on July 1, 1903 with fifteen men from the towns of North Monroe and Uniontown. The unit was initially called the “Uniontown Guards” but was later renamed the “Perrysburg Guards” after General George Armstrong Custer who fought in World War I. On November 15, 1918, the Ohio National Guard played a role in helping to break up a mass rally by white supremacists in downtown Perrysburg. After the rally ended without any injuries or damage, members of the guard were praised by Mayor Harry Kapp for their bravery and restraint. The guard has been credited with preventing further violence and vandalism throughout the city since then. In 1935, Governor James Manges signed legislation creating an air force unit within the Ohio National Guard which would become known asthe 108th Fighter Squadron (Perrysburg). This squadron helped support combat operations during World War II before being disbanded in 1945. In 1949, statehood amendments created an infantry division within theOhio National Guard which became known asthe 106th Infantry Division (Perrysburg).. This division served in Vietnam before being disbandedin 1973. Since its establishment in 1903,the Ohio National Guard has played a significant role in Perrysburg's history; it has provided service to both local and national interests alike. Perrysburg is a small town in Kent County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,716 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron– Canton–Marietta Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for General George Washington and his family during the American Revolution. Perrysburg was originally settled by Germans and their descendants on land that now includes much of downtown Perrysburg. The first white settler in Perrysburg was Michael Schultz, who arrived in 1796. In 1812, John Toombs established a gristmill here which became one of the most important east of the Allegheny Mountains businesses of its time. In 1814, Perrysburg's first school opened with 10 students and two teachers; it continued to operate until 1912 when it merged into nearby Summit Township schools. Today, Perrysburg's only public school is located within its own limits (the Central High School). In addition to its lone high school, Perrysburg has three elementary schools - East Main Elementary School (grades K-6), South Main Elementary School (grades 7-9), and West Main Elementary School (grades 10-12). One additional elementary school - Stroudsville Intermediate/Secondary School - is open to students who are not citizens or residents of neighboring townships but do attend one or more Kent County schools as part of a dual enrollment program with Case Western Reserve University; this second intermediate/secondary school also offers vocational education under six different auspices including technology/telecommunications/information systems/medical records handling; however no classes offered full-time currently in 2014 due to lack of space at our current location! The National Guard was organized on November 16, 1792, as one of the first militia forces in the United States. The Guardsmen were originally stationed at Fort George Townshend in Boston. By 1821, there were over 5,000 Guardsmen in various states across the Union. On July 4th, 1951, President Harry S Truman signed Executive Order 9265 which created the modern National Guard system within the Department of Defense. This order established a separate Military Intelligence Service (MIS) within each Commanding General’s Headquarters District and authorized each Commandant to provide 1/10thousand men annually for service with military intelligence functions only within his command area and not beyond it. This change greatly increased opportunities for enlisted Guardsmen to interact with Federal law enforcement officials and other members of their chain of command while providing guard duty outside their home state or local jurisdiction. In 1966 Congress passed Public Law 89-565 which amended Title 10, United States Code by adding sections 235a-235h et seq., giving certain members of the National Guard more rights than regular citizens when performing official duties (such as serving on juries). These amendments also created an independent adjutant general corps withineach State Militia organization underutilized by Regular Army officers and creating a special unit called “the Special Purpose Company” (SPC) for use by State Militia organizations who wished to become part of activated Force components with federal authorities; this Unit was later redesignated as The Reserve Component Police Services (REPPS). Perrysburg is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio. It was founded in 1791, and has been the seat of Perry County since 1801. The population was 9,834 at the 2010 census, down from 10,075 at the 2000 census. The town is located in the eastern part of Perry County on the Scioto River. The area that became Perrysburg was portions of what are now Licking and Ashland counties. In 1791, General George Washington's army passed through this area during his march to battle against France near Paris. A group of landowning citizens petitioned Congress to establish a county for them within Licking County and they were successful in doing so on January 1, 1801. In 1825, Perrysburg was burned by Indians during an uprising against American settlers living thereabouts. This event helped to increase its importance as a cultural center for the region because it encouraged development of trade routes between Cincinnati and points northward including Detroit and Cleveland. During World War II, many people from Perrysburg served in various military units throughout Europe and North Africa as part of D-Day Normandy Landings; some remain buried there today as war heroes who fought with distinction during that fateful day more than 50 years ago!
