The history of coffee in Perrysburg, Ohio is long and varied. Coffee was first roasted onsite by the early pioneers in this small town in 1810. The first mill in Perrysburg was built in 1814 and the first boiling water machine was erected in 1825. Coffee was mentioned for the first time in a deed dated 1799. In 1860, Joshua Freeman founded the Perrysburg Manufacturing Company which became one of the largest coffee producers in Ohio. The company manufactured beans from Sumatra to Ethiopia and exported their product all over the United States and Europe. In 1912, Mr. Freeman died leaving his business to his son, Clarence Freeman Sr., who ran it until his death in 1957. During Clarence Freeman's ownership, there were many advances made to coffee production including improvements to the boilers, machines and roasting techniques with resultant better flavor and consistency of cup quality. In 1970, while working at a local mutual fund company, I came across an article about perrysburg's long coffee history written by my predecessor as treasurer of Perrysburg Parks & Recreation District #2 (now part of City-County Government). I remember reading about how much earlier than most other places around America perrysburgh had its own small-scale roasting operation that produced its own coffees - even back before Charles Goodyear started making tires! Can't believe it now just over 150 years later - we've seen some pretty amazing things happen to our favorite drink! From here on out let's take a look at some of our favorite examples from our town's past: 1) Clarence Freeman Sr.'s remarkable achievements at the plant include developing world-class roast methods (including high altitude roasting), producing consistent cup quality year-round despite various weather conditions (and even exporting beans all over again!), being recognized as one of "the great old timers" by both industry analysts and consumers alike; 2) In 2007 park district members voted unanimously to rename portions of 3rd Street between Elmwood Avenue and State Route 522 “Clarence Freeman Jr.'s Lane” after him; 3) Since then several additional businesses within walking distance have also joined forces with us to celebrate his legacy by naming their streets after him too: Perrine Café (4th Street), Pryorstown Brewing Co.'s Peck Breweryery Annex (5th Street), etc.; 4) We're really looking forward to continuing this rich tradition into our future - what memories will we make along these commemorative Streets?

In 1848, a group of farmers in Perrysburg started roasting their own coffee. The first batch of beans was roasted on the family farmhouse fires that used cherry wood. In 1850, the first coffee shop opened in Perrysburg and was run by J.F. Post and his son John Post. By 1852, the town had a population of around 100 people and two stores. In 1861, the first US post office opened in Perrysburg and it continued to serve as the town's main mail center until it closed in 1974.

Perrysburg is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Perry County. The population was 4,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1825 by General David Ford as an agricultural community on the Scioto River near present-day Akron. In 1830, it became a village under the name of Dayton after its founder, General George Washington Dayton. The village changed its name to Perrysburg in 1835 when it merged with nearby Mansfield and ZIP code 44115 was assigned to it from Warren Township, Delaware County. In 1854, Perrysburg became a city with a population of 10,000 when it annexed parts of unincorporated areas around Akron and got its own water supply from Summit Lake. The city annexed most of Summit Township in 1865 but kept some land for itself including portions of today's Centerville neighborhood and much of downtown Perrysburg. In 1875, the city annexes more territory when it purchases land north of I-71 from neighboring Uniontown Heights for $5 million dollars which makes Perrysburg one of America's largest cities without annexation since then; today's eastern edge includes much undeveloped ruralland lying east and northeast of I-71 as well as parts or all of Clinton Township (now Defiance) and certain sections within Trumbull County outside Erie Municipal District boundaries (though Trumbull County functions separately). In 1907, due to floods that struck central Ohio during severe weather conditions caused by heavy rains brought on by Typhoon Gambia, many businesses closed because they were unable to build structures above ground level outlastingawed prolonged flooding throughout central Ohio; this led to an increase in housing stock available for sale rather than being used as farmsteads until recently because there are few buildings built over water levels remaining from preflood days statewide except along major rivers such as Little Miami River which remain high today despite periodic low flows.) For many years after World War II Until relatively recent times real estate prices have been more reflective values than anything else related to fuel production or manufacturing jobs located close together making per capita incomes even lower than those found closer to larger metropolitan areas like Cleveland."
Perrysburg was named after General George Washington and his father, Colonel Perry. The first store in the town was built in 1820 by John C. Dearborn. In 1830, a post office was opened at Perrysburg and remained in operation until 1854. A courthouse was built in 1851 and it served as the town's court house until 1865 when it burned down. The town also constructed a schoolhouse in 1851-1852 and a Presbyterian church in 1857-1858. A grain elevator was constructed in 1861 and service began to the town from Peru, Indiana on November 10th that year. The first telephone line reached Perrysburg from Lima, Ohio on November 1st of that year.
