Pataskala is a town in the Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1811, Colonel George Washington and his family took up residence in what is now Pataskala after purchasing land from the Shawnee Indians. In 1819, General Wayne founded the village of North pataskala on land east of present-day Pataskala. The village became a township in 1837 and was ceded to Cuyahoga County by Purchase Act of 1836. The first post office was established in 1840, and it remained until 1888 when it was moved to Akron. In 1861, Toledo businessman John Sibley donated land to form what would become downtown Pataskala. When Akron incorporated as a city in 1903, Downtown Pataskala became its commercial district and remains that way today with several small businesses located on Fulton Street near Third Avenue. The history of agriculture has been an important aspect of life here for many years; during prohibition days (1920s) many farmers were able to sell their crops without having to worry about being caught with liquor within reach of law enforcement personnel or customers ! Today's agricultural economy includes some Manufacturing as well as Retail/Non-Manufacturing businesses ! Pataskala is a small town in Hardin County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield–Miamisburg–Hamilton, OH-MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1820 by two hardworking men from Illinois, John Pritchard and George Cashdollar. The name "Pataskala" is taken from a Cherokee word meaning "place where the Tobacco trees grow." The first store in Pataskala was built on a farm owned by James Sibley near present day Ulysses Road and I-71. In 1827, when the Miami and Erie Railroad arrived in Hardin County, business began to increase around town because of the train's arrival daily bringing goods and people to Springfield and Miamisburg. By 1830, Pataskala had its own schoolhouse and post office which until 1835 was located at the corner of First Street and Third Avenue. A saw mill which operated until 1862 was located just east of town on what is now Old US 55 south of US 71 (now I-271). In 1834 William Haney put up a log cabin on his property about three miles northeast of town on what is now Griggs Rd (also known as West Main St). This cabin became an inn known as The Gables which continued to be run by Haney for many years after his death in 1865. In 1897 Charles Fenton opened up his furniture store across from Griggs Rd., which soon became one of Ohio's most popular shopping areas for rural consumers during the late 1800s through early 1900s. One major development that took place inpatience with small towns such as Pataskala during this time period were railroad crossings that were built specifically for this purpose within minutes or even seconds of each other throughout much of Ohio; usually causing quite an inconvenience for drivers trying to get through these intersections without stopping or waiting long periods (or worse yet), getting lost while doing so! One example would be crossing Overbrook Rd./I-71 just north of downtown Springfield; simply walking across onto North Main Street/Rte 8 did not work as planned due to engineers creating this Crossing “just right” – only 10 feet wide at best! When drivers tried traveling down MainStreet & over SR 8 instead they ended up going all around campus & back into their original intersection bypassing their destination altogether! By 1917 there were no more crossings like this being created so drivers needed to find another way around if they wanted access to their destinations! Some interesting trivia about this particular crossing includes that it served as a filming location for two episodes(s) out OF THE WOODS!! From here you can continue your travels East down I-271 before reaching Springfield once again….. Along with all these various transportation advancements made throughout these years…… Mark Twain lived very close by….. For those reasons......Pataskala has always been very proudto have been home to ONE OF THE VERY FIRST INTERNATIONAL RACES TO MEET IN OHIO!!!

In 1951, the name of the town changed topataskalahua when it merged with other towns in rural central Ohio to formthe patiskala-area metropolitan area
