Grant near noon on July 9, 1814 at Newton Mill Creek just south of present day Pattersonville. In 1814, Pataskala became a town when it was joined with Santelusa to form the Diocese of Cleveland. In 1870, parts of central and southwestern Ohio were combined with Conneaut Township to create Lake County, which included both Pataskala and Santelusa. On July 1, 1898, all villages in Lake County were merged into one new municipality called "Pataskala". On January 1st, 1963 (following local referendum), Pataskala became an unincorporated community within Clermont Township in Hamilton County.
