The USS Constitution Museum in Parma Heights, Ohio is the oldest active Navy ship museum in the United States and one of the most popular tourist destinations for sailors and their families. The museum was founded on October 11, 1814 by Commodore David Dixon with a gift from his brother-in-law, Samuel Western. In 1896, Commodore John D. Sloat donated two of his warships to the Museum as part of an American naval donation campaign to commemorate350 years of American naval activity around the world. On September 9, 2016, it was announced that USS Constitution Museum would be closing its doors after 43 years in operation. Parma Heights, Ohio is a small town in the United States located in the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. The population was 10,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cuyahoga Falls–Steele County, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Parma Heights was founded in 1892 by a group of Italian Americans who were moving from Cleveland to take advantage of its natural resources and new agricultural opportunities. The village grew quickly and by 1896 it had a population of 1,500 people. By 1907 Parma Heights had a population of 5,000 people and by 1916 it had reached 10,000 people. In 1951 Parma Heights became an unincorporated community. In 1965 Parma Heights became one of five townships within the newly created Miamisburg-Warren Township which included all but two villages within Cuyahoga Falls-Steele County. On July 1, 1968 Miamisburg annexed the Village of Parma Heights which consisted of land east of US 33 that had been annexed into Warren Township since 1928 when that township was formed from portions of Euclid Township and Scioto Township. On November 3rd, 1992 GEO Group announced plans to build a processing plant for produce destined for Walmart in Canton, OH with plans to create over 1,100 jobs during construction phase alone; this would be only one among several announcements made related to GEO’s plan called “Cantonopolis” totaling nearly $1 billion investment over 10 years with approximately 2 million jobs across 12 states! This announcement has led many residents and businesses in Parma Heights & neighboring communities (Euclid-University Circle & Schaumburg) to start planning their own projects or expansions/updates to what they already have going on! Parma Heights, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio and is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 9,778 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Geauga County and Lorain County. The first permanent settler in Parma Heights was Isaac Stevens who arrived in 1788 from England. He founded a gristmill on the Scioto River which he named "Stevens' Mill". The mill produced flour for local markets and also served as a stopping point for travelers coming westward over the Great Lakes region. In 1814, George Stephenson built his first locomotive here and this became known as Stephenson's Depot after him. In 1825, John Crain purchased land here from Stevens and began to develop it into a planned community with streets, homes, stores and other infrastructure needed for an expanding city center. The development of Parma Heights took off during the 1830s when entrepreneurs started selling lots here at bargain prices to everyday citizens looking to establish their own piece of Americana – something that hadn't been possible until then due to lack of transportation or marketing resources available outside larger metropolitan areas. By 1840, Parma Heights had become one of America's most vibrant towns with more than 100 businesses including grocery stores, restaurants and theaters dotting its streetscape; it boasted even its own newspaper which published today under another name (The Herald). But despite all this success there were some challenges faced by early settlers: floods frequently destroyed homes in these mountains due to heavy rains; winters were cold enough that trees died so extensive damage was done to roadsides; but ultimately these problems paled in comparison to what would come later on when railroads came through town providing easy access both northbound and southbound to major settlements across Northern Ohio via main routes such as Route 66 (now I-71) – making Parma Heights one of the most rapidly developing communities in Northeast Ohio during this time period! In 1852 following annexation by Cleveland proper (an event that occurred largely as a result of General Grant's victory over Napoleon Bonaparte at Plattsburgh), Parma Heights saw its biggest growth spurt with thousands upon thousands moving into what had once been little more than farmland within commuting distance for jobs downtown while also adding hundreds more residential units onto what would become known as "the Hill." Today many people still refer to themselves simply as “Parmers” although some may have moved away since 1990 Census when area boundaries changed based on population growth rates rather than historical ties
Parma Heights was one of the first settlements in what would become Ohio. It was founded by families from northern Italy who arrived in the region during the early 1800s. The name, which means "upper farmstead" in Italian, is thought to be derived from a local farmstead called Parma that was located near where the settlement eventually grew. The area now known as Parma Heights was originally part of an agricultural district that extended eastward into Cincinnati and westward into Allentown. In 1814, after years of land acquisition and construction, Parma Heights became a townrico under the jurisdiction of the newly formed county of Hamilton. In 1828, when Hamilton County merged with Fayette County, Parma Heights became part of Fayette Township. When that township was disbanded in 1839, it again became part of Hamilton County and its successor entity, Athens Township. On January 1, 1847, Athens Township were reorganized as Parma Heights Township due to increased population growth within its borders and because it adjoined Athens on the west side of Monroeville Road (later State Route 519). On May 15th 1905 however, Athens Township were re-organized again as Cuyahoga Falls Township due to fire damage done to many homes within its boundaries during an outbreak of yellow fever pandemic among residents living within city limits at the time
