In 1917 Company G became an artillery regiment when it merged with Battery A from Camp Butler to form Fourth Artillery Regiment #2(4 AR). On May 12th 1918 Companies D & E were organized from battery A at Camp Butler to become 5th Field Artillery Regiment; these companies would remain attached to 4 AR until its disbandment on November 15th 1918 due to war exhaustion.
