Oxford was founded in 1827 by Englishmen as an agricultural community on land bought from Judge John Lynch for $1,000. The town grew rapidly due to its location within a two-hour drive of Cincinnati and its railroads which connected it with other parts of Ohio and Kentucky. In 1868, Oxford became an incorporated municipality and later annexed part of neighboring Defiance Township. By the early 21st century, Oxford had reached its peak growth with nearly 2 million residents, making it one of America's most populous cities. In 1796, Dutch traders discovered Java, an island located in Indonesia, and began trading with the local population. They brought over some of the first European settlers who started cultivating coffee. Coffee became a popular commodity and was used as currency in many areas of South Asia. In 1876, Giovanni Moretti founded a small business called La Torre di Pisa that roasts coffee beans on site. Today, La Torre di Pisa is one of the largest and most respected roasters of fresh roasted coffee in Italy. In 1912, Italian forces invaded Ethiopia and established an independent kingdom under Emperor Haile Selassie I. Coffee became available to Italians living in Ethiopia after French troops destroyed a bridge crossing into that country on Christmas Day 1912. This event helped spur demand for Ethiopian coffee beans since they were now available at a lower price point than when they were exported to Europe. After World War II ended,Italian soldiers stationed in Japan began buying large quantities of Ethiopian coffee so they could keep it fresh while they awaited their return home. The popularity of espresso (a type of Italian-style café) grew during World War II because Allied Forces needed caffeine to help them stay awake during bombings and raids over Tokyo; however, these same wartime shortages caused much criticism from those who felt that rationing had taken away too much choice from civilians. The post-war years saw more competition for market share as cafes opened up all over the world seeking to be able to offer better quality products at lower prices than their predecessors did - this led some cafés such as Starbucks to become more selective about what types of roastings they offered or stopped offering altogether due to lack of customer demand or preference (eaview). In 1971 Starbucks discontinued all but one type of roastings - dark roast - effective January 1st that year following criticism from some consumers who felt their favorite coffees were no longer being offered made light or dark; however, this decision has been defended by Starbucks as it allowed them greater flexibility given changing preferences among customers across regions worldwide (Petersen). By 1997 Starbucks had resumed offering both light and dark roasts which remains their current practice today (Moses). Since then other cafes have followed suit with different variations within each type including organic whole bean/decaffeinated blends etc., resulting in quite a variety on store shelves globally!

Oxford, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Coshocton Township. The population was 21,851 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Coshocton County. Oxford was founded by Nicholas Hill in 1824 as a small community on the Scioto River just upstream from present-day downtown Cincinnati. It grew rapidly due to its location on navigable waterways and its easy access to transportation including railroads and boats. By 1890, Oxford had reached its peak as an industrial town with factories producing everything from textiles to shoes to munitions. However, during World War I Oxford became a strategic center for aircraft production because of its proximity to German airfields. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, however, Oxford began experiencing dramatic decline due to reductions in manufacturing jobs throughout Ohio following World War II. Many businesses closed their doors after the war; however, Oxfords largest factory lost many jobs due primarily to automation and new technology advancements such as television production plants. In 1957, when Cleveland annexed southeastern Coshocton Township (including much ofOxford), it merged with neighboring Parkland Township (including much of what is now Delaware Heights) creating one of North America's most highly populated metropolitan areas with over 1 million residents within 12 miles (19 km). With suburban growth continuing until about 1990; overall joblessness rates among working age adults increased from about 20% in 1960 to nearly 30%. However significant efforts have been made since then by local officials and private industry alike to reverse these trends through various investment initiatives including downtown redevelopment which has resulted in more than 100 new jobs created since 2002; resurgent streetcar service which has added more than 10 miles (16 km) ofalking track downtown; increasing support for arts programming through tax breaks and donations from business owners; and development around University Circle – a thriving central business district that has seen major expansion over recent decades attracting new restaurants, bars, shops, apartments and office buildings
Oxford, Ohio was founded in 1827 as a small village on the east bank of the Miami River. In 1835, it became a town and in 1865 it became a city. The population of Oxford increased from 447 in 1830 to 2,362 in 1860 and 3,813 in 1870. It reached its peak of 5,086 residents in 1900. After World War I, Oxford declined due to falling population and economic activity. However, during the Great Depression (1929-1933), the city experienced an influx of new residents as workers moved into nearby Toledo and Cleveland. The population rebounded by 1940 but then decreased again through the late 1940s and 1950s due to suburbanization and other factors. In 1960, Oxford was merged with neighboring Fairfield Township to form Fairfield-Oxford Township.
