Norwood is a small town in the southwestern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 3,695 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Muskingum County seat of Norwood. Norwood was platted on March 15, 1811 by John Norwood and his brother James Norwood. The first post office was established in Norwood on April 7, 1812. In 1814, it became the county seat of Muskingum County. The construction of the Erie Canal in 1792 led to an increase in trade and industry in the area around Norwoods Cove and other points along its route. This growth attracted many new residents and businesses to town, which grew rapidly during the early 19th century. By 1800, there were over 100 people living in Norwood. Norwood experienced a significant decline during the Panic of 1837 that left it with only about 60 residents by 1840. However, following a revival during the Gilded Age period (1860-1890),NorWOOD again experienced rapid growth through 1870 when its population reached 300! Post office activity accelerated during this time as well; mail service arrived from Cleveland twice weekly by 1850! During this phase ofrowth, many important buildings were constructed including Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and Masonic Hall – both now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1906-1907 a large fire destroyed most of downtown Norwood destroying much business property as well as homes valued at $1 million or more! Despite this setback however, due to vigorous response from local officials and volunteers; within 2 weeks all damage had been repaired plus an addition to Main Street for pedestrians only! By 1912 there were over 500 business owners operating out of 119 storefronts!! After years of hard work by citizens & government officials; today'sNorwoods features beautiful architecture from various periods including Stickney Marble Company built circa 1890-1900 courthouse square—largest single building erected hereabouts—historic churches & Masonic lodges dating back to pre-Civil War days—and modern day shopping areas with high end stores

Norwood is a village in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first settlement in Norwood was made on the west bank of the Scioto River by John Norwood and his family in 1814. They named their land Norwood after their home town of Norwich, England. In 1827 David Sibley settled here and built what is now Sibley's Store and Hotel on Third Street. During this time many other pioneers also settled here including Myron Hixon in 1840 and Isaac Holmes in 1865. In 1881 the Village of Norwood was formed from parts of four other villages that were separately incorporated at that time: Athens, Delaware Township, Findlay Township,and Worthington Township. The Village buildings were built between 1881 and 1890 on a site that had been donated to it by trustees of Athens Baptist Church which then operated an academy there. This school closed in 1990 but some remnants remain today including archives and a playground across from it on Main Street (now Euclid Avenue). Norwood has a rich history dating back to its early days as a small community located off the beaten path on one side of Erie Canal where farmers would travel for goods they couldn't get anywhere else because shipping rates were too high. In fact, prior to 1830 most people who lived near present day Norwood did so because it was within easy driving distance either through Medina County or Hamilton County for goods bought at local farmers markets or general stores like those situated along Route 7 south of Dayton Airport or northwest of Ashtabula College; these markets existed until about 1870 when transportation became available via railroad making them redundant and eventually disappearing altogether during the Progressive Era although some remained open into the 21st century such as Community Market Place located just east off I-675 north of downtown Columbus near Centerville Road).
