Norwood is a small town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Norwood was founded in 1798 by settlers from Lancaster, England. The first post office was established in Norwood on March 14, 1800. In 1836, the town became a village and was renamed Norwood Heights after its highest point in the village. In 1907, the village merged with Norwood Heights to form a new municipality which continued to be named Norwood until 1999 when it changed its name to Summit Township. The Village of Norwood included both townships until 1958 when they were combined into one township under the name of Summit Township. The new township had three branches: East Branch (later called Hillsboro), West Branch (later called Westerville) and North Branch (later called Strongsville). In 1999, Summit Township re-called itself Norwoods because of an effort by local residents to promote their community as one entity with common interests and values despite their separate municipal status within the township system. On December 1st 2019 after more than two decades of planning and discussion several hundred locals gathered at Southgate Elementary School for what turned out to be an historic vote approving unification with neighboring Westerville Township which happened without any violence or disruptions

Norwood, Ohio is a small town in the Cuyahoga Valley region of northeastern Ohio. The population was 1,856 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1814 by Nicholas Norwood as a site for a new post office. The first store and tavern were built in what is now the center of town. In 1825, Norwood became the county seat of Licking County after it was moved from Columbiana to that location. During its early years, Norwood had no school but residents attended religious services available at local churches. A Presbyterian church building was constructed in 1829 and served as the town's first courthouse until it burned down in 1840. A new courthouse was erected and served as both the town hall and civil courthouse until it also burned down in 1840. In 1845, Licking County merged with Mayfield Township to form Clinton County andNorwood became part of that county. During the American Civil War, Norwood sided withthe Union and contributed men to various regiments including six companies of cavalry under General Ulysses S Grant during his campaign against Confederate General Robert E Lee (who later surrendered at Appomattox Court House). Afterward, Norwood developed into one of President Abraham Lincoln's favorite locations for hosting inaugurations due to its close proximity to Cleveland and other major cities on Lake Erie
