The history of the United States Armed Forces can be traced back to 1775, when General George Washington organized a militia force to repel British invaders. The Continental Army grew steadily in size and by 1783 had become an all-volunteer force of about two million men. On July 4, 1784, the first U.S. Congress passed an act establishing the Military Academy at West Point (now New York University). That same year, the Continental Navy was formed from troops manning warships stationed in coastal towns along the Atlantic seaboard. In 1812, Congress created the Regular Army to consist of 10 infantry regiments and 1 cavalry regiment as well as artillery batteries numbering 16 pieces each. By 1816, there were 34 infantry regiments and 7 cavalry regiments in service with the army. In 1827, President James K. Polk established a separate Department of War for military purposes which was divided into three branches: Infantry (Army), Cavalry (Navy) and Artillery (Navy). The Regular Army became known as “the Militias” in 1861 when it was renamed “the Union” army after secession during the American Civil War caused by differences over states’ representation on a national scale. During World War I (1914-1918), units of both sides were mobilized for trench warfare on various fronts around Europe; however, no significant action occurred on American soil other than occasional skirmishes near battlefields in Belgium and France where artillery fire played a major role inidelines both armies’ progress but also resulted in heavy casualties among soldiers on both sides alike while their commanders fought off countless attacks with their meager resources at their disposal; moreover European war technology then progressed far beyond anything America could provide so most combatting soldiers returned home invalided or dead within six months of arriving back home although some served more than that time period(eighty percent returnees within six months). Norwalk, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,869. The Village of Norwalk was incorporated in 1881 and is located just north of downtown Cincinnati on I-75 between Dayton and Xenia. The first settler in what became Norwalk was James Wahlgren who arrived in 1798. He named his community after his home town, Norwegia (now Oslo, Norway), which he had visited while living there with his wife Anna Maria Soderlundaegaardt during their honeymoon in 1797-98. In 1801, John Prentice (1772-1847) donated land to form what became Norwalk Township; the township included most of today's city limits as well as much of suburbs northeast of downtown Cincinnati including Trumbull County and parts of Franklin County and Dayton Township. From 1812 until it merged with Hamilton Township on March 1, 1907 to form Hamilton Township Concurrently Incorporating all 5 townships within Hamilton Township - Norwalk/Norwegia/Hamilton/Prentice/Adamsboro - only Trumbull County remained separate from the rest OF Hamilton Township through annexation by neighboring Adamsboro following a referendum on November 3rd, 1906 On July 20th 1905 Trumbull County created an annexation agreement with Adamsboro Municipality creating a new municipality called Adamsboro & Trumbull County Borough Council District No 3 forming an entity known as "Adamsboro City" within Hamilton Township concurrently Incorporating all 5 townships within Hamilton Township - Norwalk/Norwegia/Hamilton/Prentice/Adamsboro - only Trumbull County remained separate from the rest OF Hamilton Township through annexation by neighboring Adamsboro following a referendum on November 3rd, 1906 In 1916 when Norris Corporation purchased land east side Of I-275 at White Oak Boulevard for use as a steel plant they decided to name their plant "Norris Steel" after Norris' father Edward Norris (1851-1924) who had been born and raised in Butlerstown, Pennsylvania and died young at age 25 years old while working for Bethlehem Steel Company near Pittsburgh before moving west to open his own plants there starting Norris Corporation which would later become Procter & Gamble norrissteelproctersand Gamble
