The Marine Corps has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to civilians in Norton, Ohio. The Marines have donated toys, books, clothes and more to the town since World War II. In honor of this history, the Marine Band has decided to create a gift history for Norton. The Marines first arrived in Norton in 1944 as part of the 67th Infantry Division. They were stationed here until 1951 when they withdrew back home following the Korean War. From 1951-1957 they served as part of the 4th Marine Division based in Quantico, Virginia. This time period was significant for the development of Norton because it was during this time that many important changes took place including construction of Veterans Memorial Hall and incorporation into the city limits. In 1957-1960 they returned to Norton as part of III Marine Expeditionary Brigade which served in Panama and South Vietnam before being pulled back home following those wars. From 1960-1966 they served as an attached unit to III Marine Amphibious Force which conducted amphibious assaults throughout Southeast Asia. 1966-1970 saw them once again deployed with their respective divisional commands taking part in Operation Hastings – which was both their largest ever deployment and also one of their most successful campaigns against enemy forces (see below). It wasn’t until 1971 that they permanently arrived back at Camp Lejeune where they currently reside today doing battle on multiple fronts around our country. It is through these deployments that we come into contact with some truly amazing people who have helped make America great; from Governors to Generals, Members of Congress to Combat Arms personnel…the list goes on and on! We are grateful each and every day for all that our Marines do not just stand idly by while others fight for us – it is through their sacrifices we continueto serve our nation!

Norton is an unincorporated community in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,355 at the 2010 census. It is located on State Route 528 northwest of Lima. The first settler in Norton was John Norton who arrived in 1795 and started a gristmill on the Holston River. In 1814, the town developed into a small farming village with a post office and two stores. A school was built in 1815 and named after John Norton's parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Norton. By 1830, there were six residents living in Norton; four farmers and two servants. The village declined after the Great Depression when farm production plummeted due to changes in technology and increased competition from larger towns south of Cleveland. The last resident left for good in 1954. In 1933, Ohio legislators passed a bill designating Norton as an unincorporated community to help promote its existence among other rural communities that had not been served by local governments since before statehood such as Lima and Defiance Heights. A post office operated at Norton until it closed on July 15, 1957; mail was delivered via stagecoach to Lima until 1969 when ZIP code 43427 became the new postal code for all of Stark County

Norton, Ohio is a small town located in theuy of Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Norton was founded by General John Norton in 1811 and named for him. The first post office in Norton was established in 1813. In 1818, General John Norton donated land to form what is now called Norton Park. In 1850, a sawmill and gristmill were built near present-day Vestal Lake. The mill closed in 1865 but remained standing until it burned down in 1984. After that fire, vestal dam became a state park and today it features a visitor center with exhibits on local history and agriculture as well as an Interpretive Trail linking it to nearby Ohiopyle Township. A second mill also stood on the property used for farming until it caught fire in 1925 and burned down too; this mill still stands as a historic landmark next to Vestal Dam Today's community began receiving residents when colonists from Newark (now Delaware) arrived during the late 1800s looking for new homes after leaving their failures back east during the American Civil War while seeking refuge from persecution following Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation
