Since the 1800s, Norton, Ohio has been a center of coffee production. The town is located on the shores of the Muskingum River and was founded in 1788 by General David Wilkinson. Over time, Norton’s coffee industry grew and diversified. Today, it produces over 100 different types of coffeebeans. The first coffee beans were grown in Norton by local farmers in the early 1800s. In 1825, Captain John Jepson organized a company to grow coffee in Ohio for export to Europe. The first shipment of beans arrived in Liverpool, England, in 1826. Coffee became an important export commodity during this time and helped support the economy of Norton. In 1829, Colonel Moses Young founded a mill in Norton that processing beans from local trees into flour and other goods. By 1840, there were five mills operating in Norton with capacity to process 1 million pounds of coffee each year. In 1865, Colonel George Hocking founded another mill that processed coffee beans into flour for market distribution throughout Ohio and Indiana. This mill continued to operate until 1969 when it was replaced by the current mill facility on Main Street in Norton. Norton’s long history with coffee has led to its distinctive flavor profiles and unique brewing methods which have made it one of America’s most popular coffees destinations today. Norton has been a small town in central Ohio since the early 1800s. The town was founded by settlers who came from Pennsylvania and New York. The first coffeehouses were opened in Norton in 1796. By 1810, there were at least six coffeehouses in the town. In 1830, Norton became the county seat of Holmes County. The population of Norton increased rapidly after incorporation, and by 1850, it had reached 100 residents. In 1861, Norton was renamed Euclid Township after General George Washington Euclid. After the Civil War, Norton experienced a rapid growth as an agricultural center due to its fertile land and cheap labor prices. It lost its status as a township in 1920 when Elyria was incorporated into Cleveland Township.

Norton, Ohio is a community located in the northwest corner of Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census and 8,527 at the 2015 estimate. Norton was founded by Captain James H. Norton in 1821 as a trading post on the Scioto River. The first store in Norton opened in 1825. In 1865, ownership of the town changed hands several times before it passed to the estate of Ebenezer Butterfield Jr., who donated it to the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1892. The church purchased land around present-day Norton and developed it into a residential area known as "The Village." In 1916, Nora Bachelder bought part of The Village and renamed it Norton Heights. After her death in 1928, her husband Samuel Bachelder transferred ownership of Norton Heights to their daughter Ruth Bachelder McGuire and her son Irving Lyle McGuire. Ruth Bachelder McGuire served as president of Wadsworth Industries from 1957 until her death on May 9, 1984. In 1978, Beatrice Webb offered $1 million for the purchase of all remaining stock in Wadsworth Industries from Myron Easley Jr., one of Wadsworth's largest shareholders since its founding over 50 years earlier. On November 5th that year (1978), Webb's offer was accepted and Wadsworth Industries became an wholly owned subsidiary of IBM Corporation (IBM). Norton was founded in 1795 by William Norton and his brother John. In 1807, the city became a county seat of Holmes County. The first post office was established at Norton in 1821. In 1865, the Ohio General Assembly passed an act creating Holmes County and making Norton the county seat. The first courthouse was built in 1870 and is still used today.
