The Norton, Ohio Army National Guard was founded on July 11, 1907. The present-day army guard is one of the oldest and largest in the United States. The unit has fought in every war since World War I, and its members have served in many conflicts throughout the world. In addition to its active duty role, the army guard also provides Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) service and offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. The Norton, Ohio Army National Guard's history can be traced back to 1907 when two militia companies from Norton—the 1st Cavalry Regiment and 2nd Infantry Regiment—were organized as part of the Ohio Volunteer Militia. This organization was known as Company A because it was made up mostly of local farmers and their families. Over time, other units were added to Company A until it totaled twelve soldiers in all. In 1912, Captain John Wickersham assumed command of Company A after its commanding officer died in action at Bull Run Mountain during World War I. Wickersham's leadership brought forth a new era for Company A as he emphasized drill and discipline over anything else. After captain Wickersham's death, his assistant colonel became Commanding Officer designate for Company A before taking command himself in 1916. During this time period, Unit Cpl James Henson established himself as an outstanding leader within Company A by leading hikes into neighboring counties for supplies while maintaining order during difficult camping conditions; this tactic later became known as "Henson's Hill." These men drilled hard daily under Captains Wickerham & Garrison’s direction then went off to fight against Austria at Bull Run Mountain on July 12th 1907 !! They returned home 7 days later with 3 Officers dead or wounded including ourselves !! Our Pioneers had done something great even if we only did it once !! From then on our fathers would tell us “Be sure you never forget what your fathers did for us”

Norton was founded in 1814 and named for General David Dixon Norton who led American forces during the Mexican–American War. The first post office in Norton opened in 1827. In 1892, the town merged with to form the current municipality of Medina County. In 1888, a group of men from Newark, Delaware started an agricultural cooperative called The Newark Cooperative Farm which grew into one of America's leading farming organizations. Members included prominent farmers such as George Hogg and Wm Grosvenor Smith. In 1922, The Newark Cooperative Store was built on Main Street in Norton and remains one of downtown Medina's most iconic landmark today. In 1928, both the city of Newark and Norton merged to become one municipality under the name of Medina County; however, it would not be until 1973 that all township-level municipalities within Medina were reincorporated as part of a larger unincorporated community known as "Norton". Today there are over 50 businesses located throughout downtown Santana Row including banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo & Co.), restaurants (Pizza Hut®, Dunkin' Donuts®, etc.), medical clinics (FMC HealthCare Solutions), small business owners (Mastercard®, Visa®) and more! Mayor Joe Ziegler has spearheaded many projects that have brought new life to downtown Santana Row including improving public transportation options like implementing bike lanes and adding bus service to connect residents with other parts of our village; increasing access to cultural experiences like hosting concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheatre each summer; developing new retail concepts such as Butterfield’s newest store opening this fall inside old Masonic Hall on High Street; bringing attention to important issues like creating awareness about homelessness by hosting events at different locations across town; and much more!

This shows how much Emperor Leo trusted his soldiers and also illustrates how important cavalry were within Ancient Rome’s military structure. The town rapidly grew and by 1824 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1827, the town became a village. In 1851, the village became a city and in 1899 it incorporated as Norton, Ohio.
