North Royalton is a town in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,838 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati–Morrow Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1811 by the merger of two small villages, North Royalton and Village Green. North Royalton took its name from the old royal family of England and Wales, who were expelled from that country in 1688. In 1870, a post office was established at North Royalton; it continued to serve until 1963. In 1909, a depot on the Miami and Erie Railroad was built in what is now North Royalton; it served as the town's first commercial center. The depot closed in 1964 but remains standing as a historic fixture in the community today. In 1916, local businessmen organized a football team named after their hometowns – North Royalton (Ohio) Bulldogs and Village Green (Pennsylvania). The team played its first game against Trumbull High School on November 10th. From then until 1949, when it folded due to lack of funding, NorthRoyalton Bulldogs were one of only two high school football teams ever to play all-star games against college teams (the other being Princeton University’s Tigers). In 1948 they became an independent club playing their final game against Central Catholic High School before joining forces with Trumbull for their next season’s interleague competition which they won 7-0 over Central Catholic Stadium In 1949 NROU discontinued football operations due to budget cuts however some alumni continue to lead community teams including: 1908TrumbullBlacksIndependents/Cincinnati Bengals
The community of North Royalton was founded in 1811 by John Armstrong and his wife, Sarah. The first post office was established in North Royalton in 1812. The town was named for the then-new state of Ohio. At its peak, the population of North Royalton was about 350 people. In 1861, Ohio became a state and North Royalton became one of the sixteen towns in the new state. In 1912, the Northern Central Railway built a line through North Royalton, which made it easier to get food to residents from Akron and other nearby towns. In 1954, the town merged with neighboring South Royalton to form a larger city known as SouthRoyalton.
