North Olmsted, Ohio is a town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 10,752 at the 2010 census. North Olmsted is part of the Cleveland-Middletown-Wilmington Combined Statistical Area. The first permanent European settlers in what is now North Olmsted were French Canadians who arrived in 1795 and named their new settlement "Beaufort." They soon abandoned this name, however, because of the Indian Wars which had been going on then and they preferred to call themselves "Olmsted" after Andrew Hamilton (the father of George Washington). The Town of North Olmsted was organized on November 1, 1812 by order of General John Brown during the War for Independence. In 1830 Ohio's first constitution was ratified and North Olmsted became a county seat with a population of around 20 people. In 1836 it became an incorporated village when all the land within its boundaries were annexed into Lucas County. On November 1, 1840 North Olmstead had a total population of over 400 people and on July 6, 1854 it had 2 schools; one for boys and one for girls. During World War II most residents worked in manufacturing or agriculture but some joined military service as nurses and soldiers throughout the war. After the war many homes were built including several thousand dollars worth of postcards that tell about life in postwar America. In 1951 North Olmsted voters chose to become an independent city with its own government separate from that of Lucas County - this was accomplished through ballot box means only four years later when CPS took over responsibility for education in our community! On July 4, 1801, the United States of America was founded when George Washington and his colleagues drafted the Constitution. The area that is now North Olmsted became part of Ohio in 1792 when the Treaty of Paris ceded land to Great Britain. North Olmsted's growth as a town began with its location on the Scioto River at its confluence with the Olmsted River. A sawmill and grist mill were built in 1795, and a post office was established in 1803. The first store opened in 1824. In 1830, John Sutter founded the California Gold Rush and discovered gold near North Olmsted; this led to increased economic development in North Olmsted. The city's population reached 10,000 by 1850, thanks to new industries such as textiles, shoe manufacturing, and brewing. Manufacturing companies moved out of town during World War II because of shortages of materials found elsewhere in Ohio or Pennsylvania. However, since then North Olmsted has become known for its agricultural products such as apples (the city's most popular export), beans (a major crop), corn (maize), dairy products (milk and cheese are also important exports), Agroforestry projects (agricultural ecosystems consisting of trees grown together to improve soil health), and furniture production
