North Olmsted has been served by the United States Postal Service since 1821. The area now comprising North Olmsted was part of a Huntingdon Township that extended from what is now Delaware to present-day Muskegon Heights and beyond. The township was formed on March 14, 1796 when parts of Summit Township were taken to form a new township including what is now North Olmsted.. On November 3, 1800, much of what is todaynorth olmsted east and west were organized as a village under the name Easton.. On February 1, 1821, this village became part of an enlarged Stark County when it was merged with Union Township.. The first post office in north olmsted was established on May 12, 1821 by A. J. It received its current name on October 9th of that year after becoming one of six townships within Stark County that had their own Post Offices (the others being Athens, Bedford Heights/Sandusky Heights/Wyandotte Heights), following approval by General George Washington in his Order No,. 811 dated December 16th during his last months as President.. North Olmsted, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 37,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Olmsted's history dates back to 1812 when it was part of the Miami Valley region along with Vandalia and Lima. The town was founded by Frenchmen Aimé de Montcalm and Jacques Marquette on land that had been owned by the Wyandot tribe for centuries before they were bought by Captain John Dennison in 1788. Dennison named his new settlement Fort Pitt after Pennsylvania's founder, William Penn. At first, North Olmsted consisted of just two houses - one belonging to Daniel Boone and one to James Asher - but within a few years, other settlers had arrived and North Olmsted grew rapidly into a small town with a population over 100 people by 1820. In 1824, North Olmsted became one of six towns in Lucas County created from parts of Clinton Township; this merger resulted in significant growth for both communities as more businesses relocated to northOlmonellatowne because of its central location withinLucas County as well as its easy access to transportation such as roads, railroads and waterways.[1] The early economic success enjoyed by northOlmonellatowne led to increased demand for housing – which could be found only modestly priced plots outside downtown – so much so that some residents began developing what would become known as "middle class" neighborhoods east of downtown which still maintain close ties with their original hometowns today[2]. This natural suburban development pattern continued until around World War II when large numbers of Americans moved westward during the Great Migration seeking jobs in cities such as Detroit or Chicago,[3][4] leaving behind smaller towns like northOlmonellatowne struggling unsuccessfully to keep up with an ever growing suburbia trend (despite occasional successes such as Millenio Place).[5][6] However, over time these suburbs have begun To gentrify – becoming increasingly expensive and exclusive areas where high end office buildings sit atop outdated industrial sites[7][8] while poorer citizens continue to live near dangerous inner-city neighborhoods which have seen recent spikes in crime rates[9][10]. The area around North Olmsted, Ohio was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now North Olmsted were French traders and missionaries. In the early 1800s, a group of Dutch settlers arrived in what is now North Olmsted, and soon began to build a small town along the Great Miami River. In 1825, the town was renamed North Olmsted after President Andrew Johnson’s visit to that area. In 1836, the town became part of Cleveland and remained so until it was annexed by Toledo in 1907.
