The U.S. Navy has deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) for over a dozen years, and North Canton is no exception. First, the USS Constitution docked here in 1795 as part of the U.S. Naval Expedition against Tripoli under Commodore Nicholas Vandalus. She was later decommissioned and scrapped in 1907 after serving only six months in service at that point due to her age and poor condition. However, the USS Perry arrived soon after and played an important role during OEF operations such as providing cover for troops convoying into Afghanistan while also taking part in airstrikes against targets inside Pakistan throughout November 2001-March 2002.
