The North Canton, Ohio Army was one of the original units organized in 1784. The unit served in various campaigns during the Revolutionary War and thereafter. In 1815, the regiment was disbanded and its members were re-organized as a brigade under command of General John Starkweather. The brigade fought at Pittsburg Landing and Gettysburg while subsequently being mustered out in 1827. Its members were again reformed in 1830 as a company-sized battalion under command of Colonel George Armstrong Custer. This battalion served with distinction throughout the Indian Wars until it was disbanded in 1853. Its members are still present within the army today and continue to serve their country honorably.

When the United States enlisted in World War II, they knew that they needed an effective and reliable army to fight against the Axis powers. The government decided to purchase over $200 million worth of weapons, supplies, and equipment for the war effort. This was also one of the largest peacetime purchases by any country in history. The military would be positioned on every continent by 1945, including Europe where Germany had already been defeated and Japan was retreating. The American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) would be made up of more than 169,000 soldiers who were spread out among theaters such as North Africa, Italy, Sicily, Marshall Islands, South Korea and Okinawa. Each soldier received a unique Deployed Gift Bag which contained everything from cigarettes to food to clothes. These bags were often decorated with patriotic signs or pictures of soldiers fighting in various countries around the world. Later on during the war many different gifts were given to troops stationed overseas such as radios, haircuts (which became very popular due to rationing), books (such as The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck), postcards and even hot dogs! It is interesting to note that not all troops received identical gifts; there was usually a specific campaign or theater that each individual soldier belonged to.

North Canton is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 33,994 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1825 and named for North Canton, England. It was platted in 1828 as part of the Miami Purchase. The first store in town opened on December 1, 1830. In 1836 the city became one of the six towns in Stark County to be laid out along State Route 10. The original City Hall building was destroyed by fire on May 9, 1898 and replaced with a new building that still stands today. The downtown area has been redeveloped several times since its heyday as a commercial center during the early 20th century; most recently it has seen an resurgence as a arts and cultural district since 2000. North Canton is home to two colleges: University of Akron and Lorain Community College. North Canton also includes an Air National Guard Base which provides employment for many people within the community including military retirees and their families who live off-base
The first permanent settler in North Canton, Ohio was John H. Barber on December 6, 1830. The town was founded by Capt. George L. Wickham and his family, who homesteaded the land between Blue Hill and Lebanon Roads. The town's first store was built in 1834 and its first school was built in 1835. By 1840, there were over 100 residents living in North Canton. In 1847, the United States Congress passed the Act to Divide Ohio into congressional districts which gave rise to the modern day districting of Ohio that continues to this day. In 1850, North Canton had a population of 350 people and by 1870 it had grown to 1,500 people. In 1865,North Canton became part of the newly created Holmes County when it was split from Delaware County. In 1876, North Canton Township (later known as North Canton) formed a separate government with its own courthouse and jail which proved successful at preventing corruption within township government while also providing better services for citizens. By 1900, North Canton had a population of 2,000 people and by 1910 it had reached 3,000 people
