Niles, Ohio is a city in the southwestern portion of Ohio, United States. It lies on the southern bank of the Maumee River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Toledo and 30 miles (48 km) north of Detroit. The population was 21,362 at the 2010 census. In 1814, Niles became an important port on the Great Lakes due to its location near Lake Erie and its access to shipping from Muskegon Bay. As a result of this commerce and maritime activity, Niles developed into one of the most significant naval communities in America during the 19th century. The first Naval Air Station at Niles was established in 1917 as part of World War I effort to provide shore-based aviation support for American troops engaged in battle on land or in Europe. The station grew rapidly under military jurisdiction and by 1918 had become one of America’s leading aviation centers. By 1922 it had been renamed NAS Chicago; however, it reverted back to its original name after World War II when aircraft began arriving at NAS Detroit – now known as Wayne State University Airport – which led to increased need for hangar space at NAS Niles. On 1 July 1954, NAS Niles became an independent Naval Air Station with headquarters located magnetically within Marine Corps Air Station Midway Island adjacent to downtown Toledo on Lucas County land that had been donated by Colonel Lewis Ewing Ladd . Niles is a city in the US state of Ohio and the county seat of Niles Township. It was founded in 1812 by John Niles, an American Revolutionary War veteran. The city has a population of over 103,000 as of 2019. The first settlers in what is now Niles were farmers who arrived around 1800. By 1810, they had erected a log cabin on the east side of town, which served as their local courthouse until1816 when the first brick courthouse was built on Elm Street. In 1828, Niles became part of the new state of Ohio and its residents voted to incorporate as a city. In 1892, citizens organized the first municipal fire department in Ohio and City Hall was built that year to serve as their Municipal Building. In 1918, Municipal Hall was renovated and renamed City Hall Annex after Mayor William Hirtz Jr.. In 1961, voters approved annexation by Lima Township which then merged into Niles Township. This set off a chain reaction that led to more than 100 acres (40 hectares) being added to Niles from Lima Township over time; this included land used for industrial purposes such as auto factories and rubber plantations along with man-made lakes including North Side Lake and South Side Lake. Today, most development takes place around Elm Street between Third Avenue and State Road 83 where there are several high-rise apartments buildings completed in recent years – Downtown & Midtown have been turned into upscale shopping areas while West Side Park remains an open space with access from both sides from downtown streetscape

Over the next few years, he built up his company until it became one of the largest newspaper companies in America. In 1830, he married Maria Hutton and their children would become some of the most influential figures in Cleveland's early history. Despite its fledgling beginnings, Nilles quickly rose through the ranks of Cleveland's business community and achieved great success over the next several decades. His businesses thrived due to his innovative marketing techniques and his dedication to providing high-quality products at reasonable prices. In 1875, he donated land nearCLEVELAND SQUARE that would later become downtown Niles – one of Cleveland's earliest commercial redevelopment efforts – and continues to play an important role today in its growth story. Throughout his career as an entrepreneur and civic leader, Simon Nilles demonstrated both extraordinary vision and relentless determination; he never backed down from challenges or pushed himself harder than necessary just because others were more experienced or able-bodied than him. He is considered one of America’s true pioneers – someone who dedicated himself wholeheartedly to making Cleveland into what it is today: A proud city full of culture and commerce that attracts world-class visitors every year."
