The history of the Ohio Air National Guard's deployed gift program began in 1946 when Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Ohio ANG were activated as a provisional command under the United States War Department. The squadron was redesignated 1st Bombardment Wing in 1951 and became part of the newly formed USAF. Inactivated in 1955, 1st BW was reactivated as a Tactical Air Command unit with headquarters at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. In 1957, it became flagship wing of Continental Air Command; however, when that organization was disbanded in 1961 it reverted back to Tactical Air Command status as 1st BG. It became an airlift command with its current name in 1968 when it took over responsibility for all USAF tactical Airlift commands (except Strategic Air Command). In 1990, 1st BG relocated from Wright-Patterson AFB to Niles Municipal Airport near Cleveland due tobudget cuts within Tactical Air Command. At the time of its move 1BG had become one of the smallest bombardment wings in USAF and functioned primarily as an aerial refueling/resupply base. Towering up above Cleveland skyline on persistent missions providing combat air support were two KC-135 Stratotankers flown by 3rd Wing pilots conducting Operation Neptune's Spear during Kosovo War campaign against Serbian military forces which included attacks on important bridgeshead positions using precision munitions dropped from bombers escorted by fighter jets operating from US bases throughout Yugoslavia; both operations occurred without ground reinforcement or warning shots being given prior to drop) On 20 October 2002, after more than 50 years flying proudly under three different wing names - instrument only 2d FG (1946-1952), 3d FW (1957-1968), & 4th FG (1990-2002) – 4th FG transferred to Edwards AFB Calif., becoming operational as The United StatesAir Force's 9th Weather Wing following activation of Joint Typhoon Operations Center thereon 12 November 2002. Niles, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Fayette County. The population was 95,581 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Fayette County after Cincinnati. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Niles was Nicholas Young on March 14, 1814; he and his family were among the first to cross the Cuyahoga River into what is now Ohio from Pennsylvania. Today's downtown core boom began to take shape in earnest in 1967 when developer Milton Hershey bought land near central square for an open-air mall that would include several large department stores including Sears and Kmart as well as five smaller shopping centers around it. The mall – one of eastern Ohio's largest – quickly became one of Niles' most popular tourist attractions drawing more than two million visitors each year by 1990s standards. With its main streets wide enough for multiple automobile lanes (and still allowing pedestrians to wander through), busy sidewalks full of restaurants, cafes, and small shops – many dating back to before malls were even a thing – central square remains today one of Niles' most vibrant areas with plenty of opportunity for civic engagement if you're feeling wanderlust this winter or chance encounter something interesting while strolling around during warmer months."

Niles, Ohio (formerly Painesville) is a city in Niles Township, Dearborn County, Michigan, United States. The population was 27,895 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Dearborn County after Detroit. The area that now Niles was settled by French colonists as part of "L'Islet" Farms on the Rouge River in 1796. The name may be derived from an Iroquois word meaning "place where two rivers meet." In 1814, the town was renamed for General Nathan Bedford Forrest because he had been a hero of the War of 1812 and had protected American settlers in what is now Dearborn County. In 1836, Niles became part of Decatur Township, which became Warren Territory following the Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1854. In 1861 it became part of Wayne County when it was organized as a county. In 1889 it became a city and remains so today. In 1865, during the American Civil War, General Ulysses S.
