This structure contained a retail area and an examination room where gifts could be examined for damage or wear. A large clocktower adorned one side of this structure. The Shop operated until 1984 when it closed due to economic conditions within the community. Since its closure, there have been several attempts by members of the community to reopen it; none have succeeded completely. Current efforts include fundraising and soliciting donations from local businesses who would like to see signage installed outside of their establishments advertising the shop exists still open for business should anyone want to purchase something from it again (or any other craft store in town).

In 1848, when Cleveland was founded as the new capital of Ohio, New Philadelphia joined Cleveland as an incorporated city within Cleveland's limits; however, it ceased to be an integral part of Cleveland after 1951 when it became an independent municipality within Muskingum County
