The first time the United States Air Force deployed a gift to New Franklin, Ohio was in 1948. The gift was a plane. That same year, the United States Air Force stationed an air wing at Wright-Patterson AFB. In 1950, the USAF moved the air wing to New Franklin and it became known as the 1st Strategic Aerospace Division (1SAD). The division activated on July 15th, 1950 and its mission was to provide strategic deterrence by providing aerial refueling support for bombers flying over North America. Aircrews from 1SAD flew missions into Canada and Mexico conducting bombing raids against Japanese targets during World War II before becoming part of Allied forces in Europe following the war. Later they provided humanitarian relief flights during both world wars including Operation Paperclip which sent AmericanAAF personnel to fly food supplies over Nazi Germany. Inactivated on October 31st, 1960 due to budget cuts within NATO member nations resulting in their disbandment without reimbursement of gifted aircraft or equipment. After being inactive for more than 30 years, 1SAD's assets were transferred from Wright-Patterson AFB to Maxwell AFB Alabama where they currently remain today as part of Air Combat Command's 7th Wing which is responsible for nuclear deterrence globally

The Global Hawk aerial reconnaissance and surveillance system is a unique airborne platform designed for providing intelligence, target identification, and tracking during Operation Enduring Freedom. The instrumented Boeing 767-300ER flew from RAF Mildenhall, England on December 5th and 6th 2001 carrying two EC-135T Globemaster III Aircraft from the 296th Aerospace Maintenance Squadron at Eglin AFB Florida. These aircraft were used to provide imagery and video support for Ground Attack Aviation Units (GAAU) flown by Major General Don Armstrong with his Headquarters Air Combat Command (HACC), Northern Iraq Task Force - 1st Brigade.
New Franklin, Ohio is a town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,971 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton metropolitan area. New Franklin was founded in 1814 by General William Henry Harrison and his brother John Fenton as a post office on the Scioto River. New Franklin had a post office from 1814 until it closed in 1903. The first settler in New Franklin was James Hickey. He arrived with his family from Connecticut on November 25, 1814. Other early settlers included David Dayton (1815), John Morse (1816), Moses White (1817), Elijah Cloud (1821), and Gideon Greenfield (1823). In 1830, Daniel Shively became the first white resident of what is now New Franklin when he bought land near present day Valley View Road and State Route 214 east of the Scioto River. In 1831 Shively donated to the town twenty acres west of present day Ulysses Road which became Trustees Rowland's School property later renamed Elmira Heights Elementary School during its construction in 1924-1925 by local developer Hennepin Avenue Homes Foundation trustees under direction of Mayor Rahm Emanuel after seeing an unused lot on that site for sale for $1 million through their block party promotion campaign two years earlier while attending a business meeting at nearby Elyria Township Hall attended by then Auditorium Theatre President Harry Cohn and other community leaders about potential uses for that parcel adjacent to City Hall Park between Euclid Street and Third Street.) New Franklin was laid out by Edward Hance in 1812 and named for General James Wilkinson who fought against Spanish forces during the War of 1812. It was first settled by Germans in the early 1800s and became a city in 1907. The city's economic decline began in the 1920s as a result of heavy manufacturing activity which moved away from Cleveland to other places during World War II. Afterward, New Franklin experienced a period of growth due to its location within easy driving distance of major national retailers and its status as an educational center for eastern Kentuckians. However, this progress came to an end when suburban development increased traffic congestion on Roads 12 and 14 and caused unemployment rates to increase among residents who had formerly relied upon job opportunities within commuting distances to further their education or work outside their homes. In recent years, efforts have been made to redevelop portions of New Franklin into mixed-use neighborhoods with retail and office space along with residences that may be rented out year-round or used as holiday rentals by local businesses.
New Franklin was a village in part of the present-day city of Columbus, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1812 by James Delaware and others as part of the Miami Purchase. The name "New Franklin" was chosen because it was one mile from the new ford on the Scioto River that would become Columbus’s first commercial center. New Franklin prospered as a trading post and mill town until its incorporation into the city of Columbus in 1836.
