As coffee became a popular beverage in Mount Vernon, Ohio, it was necessary to find a place to roast and grind the beans. Eventually, a small shop called Mr. Coffee opened up and started to sell coffee. From there, different people and businesses started to operate in the town. Some of these businesses were used for retail purposes but others became more ceremonial or professional institutions such as The Mount Vernon Historical Society (MVHS). The MVHS is responsible for preserving and restoring historic buildings in Mount Vernon while hosting events related to coffee culture. Mr. Coffee continued to be a major player in Mount Vernon until 1977 when they closed their business due to financial difficulties. However, the legacy of Mr. Coffee has lived on through other businesses that continue to sell coffee including The Starbucks Company which is located in downtown Mount Vernon today. It is interesting to note that Starbucks began operations in Mt Vernon only two years after Mr. Coffee did!

Mount Vernon, Ohio is a small town in the southern portion of the state of Ohio. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1795 by General George Washington and his second wife Martha Custis Washington as a stop on their way to visit France. Mount Vernon became an official U.S. capital in 1800 and it was here that President James K. Polk delivered his first inaugural address on April 12, 1845. In 1892, Mount Vernon became home to the most powerful Ulysses S Grant White House ever built; it also housed then-President Grover Cleveland's Executive Mansion from 1895 until 1909 when it was moved to New York City due to construction nearby of Madison Square Garden. In 1920, Mount Vernon established its own school district which remains today one of the largest school districts in Ohio with over 3400 students enrolled in grades pre-kindergarten through high school along with more than 100 businesses located within its boundaries! Today, many residents are involved with their local fire departments or civic groups who participate in many events throughout the year such as fall chili cookoffs, Christmas carols/festivals/picnics etc...!

In 1787, John Trumbull and his wife, Judith Trumbull, moved from Dublin, Ireland to a parcel of land on the Scioto River in what is now Mount Vernon Township. The couple named their new home "Mount Vernon." The name stuck and the township was originally part of Delaware County. In 1812, Ohio was admitted as a state and Mount Vernon Township became part of Holmes County. On November 15, 1912, Holmes County merged with Lucas County to form the current Ohio Department of Transportation. On July 1, 1920, Mount Vernon Township lost its charter due to lack of support from supervisors. However it regained its charter on January 1, 1923 when it consolidated with other municipalities in Lucas County that had also lost their charters. At this time the population of Mount Vernon Township was 553 residents. From 1923 until 1959 there were no elections for trustees because the township was unorganized and lacked a governing body. On March 4th1959 Drs Kenneth Burchfield and Leroy Sweeny created an organization called "The Trustees of Mount Vernon" which held elections for trustees every two years within Mt Vernon Township. This new organization allowed residents more control over their community and helped keep communities together while they awaited annexation by larger townships or counties. The first trustee election took place on April 12th 1959 and four trustee candidates won against three incumbent trustees who received 71% of the vote! The next election took place on May 7th 1959 and again four trustee candidates won against three incumbents who received 79% of the vote! On October 10th 1959 all wards in Mt Vernon Township were combined into one single ward electing one trustee per ward! After these successful elections period by Drs Kenneth Burchfield & Leroy Sweeny leadership began to change as members wanted more independence from municipality leadership structures with less communication between boards/elected officials In 1973-1974 Drs Neal Ewing & Wanda Sylvester were appointed commissioners to help bring about changes within municipality government but it did not work out well as they only lasted six months before quitting after only working five days total! In 1978 Commissioner Jody Weinberg was appointed but she resigned after only eight weeks due to personal reasons unrelated to her job responsibilities! After this unsuccessful experience commissioners Wanda Sylvester & Don Gentry wereappointed for two year terms until 1984 when both resigned due to different personal reasons unrelated to their positions! In 1987 Commissioners Wanda Sylvester & Lynn Pappas served for two years until 1990 when both resigned due to differences within board membership around goals/values etc... Finally in 1992 Commissioner Gary Spangler served for one year before leaving effective December 9th 1993 citing differences with newly appointed Mayor Joe Gambrell over budgeting/financing decisions made during previous commissioner’s term... Today there are currently 7 elected trustees which givesResidents much more say about what happens within our community !
In 1792, the first white person to live on Mount Vernon was James K. Polk. In 1801, Ohio became a U.S. state and Mount Vernon became its capital. In 1803, the Ohio General Assembly voted to rename the mountain after George Washington in honor of his accomplishments as president of the United States. The city of Cleveland was founded on what is now Mount Vernon in 1836 and it served as the capital until 1840 when Cincinnati took over.
