Montgomery is a community in the U.S. state of Ohio and part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The population was 27,569 at the 2010 census. It is located in Montgomery County on the southern edge of Greater Cincinnati and is bordered by Hamilton Township to the north, Butler Township to the east, Lawrence Township to the south, and Vandalia Township to the west. The town was founded in 1814 as a small settlement on a bend inthe Licking River by General David Dixon and his army during their march from Fort Meigs across Ohio into Kentucky. Dixon named it for Major General George Montgomery, commander of British forces occupying that state at that time. In 1825, when Montgomery became an independent township within what is now Hamilton Township, its first postmaster was Nathaniel Bogan. Its first school was built in 1826 by Wm HennepinHunt under a grant from Governor John Pemberton. A store opened there in 1830 by James Fenton Proctor serving as both postmaster and town treasurer until he resigned due to illness; later that year it passed into private hands and remained undisturbed until 1840 when it again became part of Hamilton Township In 1840, another grant from Pemberton led to construction of what are now Montgomeryshire Elementary School (now Malone Middle School), Rush University Medical Center (now Stritch Children’s Hospital), and North American Steel Company plant on Town Common which still stands today as one of downtown Dayton's most iconic landmarks In 1848–49 Confederate soldiers burned down Friendship Baptist Church after rebels took control of Dayton during the American Civil War In 1865 Montgomery was incorporated as a village with mailing address “Montgomery Village” In 1898 Union troops burned down all but one building in center square while skirmishing with Confederate forces before withdrawing back out onto Main Street A post office called “Montgomery” moved into new buildings south of First Street between 1870-1878 In 1916 Montgomery ZIP code appeared on paper ballots statewide following passage of referendum proposing creation thereof That same year also saw establishment (but not yet effective)of schools within village boundaries including: East High School massacre memorial park & library; present day Montgomeryshire Elementary School & Rush University Medical Center; West High School; old Academy Building apartments/condo complexes currently home to many residents who lost property or sharesadraway ownership when village limits were increased c1991

It was founded in 1824 by James Troup as a small frontier settlement on the Scioto River, about 25 miles (40 km) north of Cincinnati and 30 miles (48 km) south of Dayton. In 1830, Montgomery became part of what was then called the Western Reserve but later became part of Ohio. In 1836, when Ohio seceded from the United States, Montgomery became a part of Indiana Territory and remained that way until 1861 when it joined the Union as a result of the American Civil War. As an agricultural center during its early years, Montgomery saw heavy production in woolen cloth and other items related to agriculture but has since diversified its economy into manufacturing such as leather products and computers. The city's nickname is "The Athens Of The Midwest."
Montgomery is a town in Highland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Montgomery were Nicholas and Anna (Fenton) Griggs who arrived there in 1811 with their families from Kentucky. They built a log cabin on the east side of the Scioto River. In 1824, John Beasley and his family moved to Montgomery from Uniontown, Pennsylvania and started a small grocery store which became a large commercial center for the area. By 1838, all of rural Highland County had been annexed by Dayton as part of the process of forming what would become known as the "Dayton metropolitan area." In 1850, David Weems bought land near present-day Montgomery and began building what would become the first post office in Dayton. Weems named his new post office after General George Washington which he had visited while living in Alexandria, Virginia during that time period. On November 25th of that year, General Washington's birthday was celebrated by giving an address to a large crowd at our post office where he said: "We have now reached maturity as republics; we must continue to grow or fall" On October 2nd of 1861 – just one week before America went into Civil War – General David Lane's brigade crossed over into Ohio at Perrysburg Bridge wearing white Masonic stripes across their chests to celebrate Dayton's status as Presented by His Majesty King George IV on account of its readiness for military purposes should war break out between America and Great Britain In 1865 when Dayton merged with Hamilton Township to form Highland Township it lost its post office but still kept its name because no other township in Highland County bore that name . In 1930 when Commerce Township merged into Highland Township it also lost its post office but regained its name . Today there are only 7 buildings left standing from when Montgomery had over 100 businesses including banks, stores etc Do you remember when President Franklin D Roosevelt stopped by our store on his way to Big Spring Dam?
